Question
I amiled a package Airmail Letter Post on 3/16 to Hamilton, Ontario. Because it weighed more than 1 lb. I had to fill out a US Green Customs label. The other day I received an email from high bidder wanting to know if I had shipped because he didn't receive it. I asked him to contact his post office and customs to see if it was held up in customs. He said his post office was useless and would (I take it grungingly) contact customs. I went down to the PO today and filled out the "tracking" form.
Anyone know if packages are being held up in customs or is there anything else I can do. The PO has to keep those customs forms for 6 months so I could ask for a copy and mail it high bidder to prove I did actually mail the package.
Answer
I'm not sure if we can contact customs and ask about the holdup or not.
I would say I doubt it.
I hope another Canukian comes by to help you.
I do recall that Canadian customs was moved to one central location, due to anthrax scares, and that it has caused delays.
I'm waiting on two items, where I know the people and I'm sure they were shipped.
So I'm going to have to do the same thing your customer will.
Wait patiently.
Answer
it isn't panic time yet anyway, he is just one of those impatient, "where is my package" canadians we all keep hearing about
it is probably on its way to him right now, I find as soon as I answer an email about shipping dates, the package usually arrives with in a couple of days. Murphy's Law I figure....
Answer
Has he checked with his post office? Even if he thinks they are useless, perhaps he didn't get a notice in his mailbox that he has a package waiting at the post office. If he doesn't call them, and its there, it will simply be returned to you in a couple of weeks.
Cause he will have to pay taxes to the gov. and a fee to the post office, so they aren't going to deliver it to him. He will have to go and get it.
Or did you put gift on the form?
He is best to call them and see if something is waiting for him.

Sorry to butt into this thread, but Jill or Doofy, I have a question.
Items being sent to Canada, should USA sellers mark them
Sample or Merchandise?
Does either 'save' the buyer on import fees?
Is one option better (for the seller/buyer) than the other?

don't lie on the customs form - it's a federal offense and you can be fined and/or thrown in jail for doing it. If it's merchandise you sold on ebay or otherwise, then it's merchandise, and the value put down on the form should be whatever their bid amount was. Saving the buyer a few bucks is not worth YOU being fined or worse.

Oh, YES! I know that.
The options are:
gift
sample
merchandise
other
I guess what I'm asking (sans the gift) is "What's the difference between sample, merchandise and other?"
Answer
Canada has become rather picky lately with incoming international mail.
If the Customs form is not perfect, and the mailing address is not printed
or all in capital letters they have been known to return or delay the mail.
My post office has checklists posted for the counter workers to check Canada
mail by before accepting it.
UGH!
Answer
Hi Dianne how many American sellers have you seen/heard got fined/arrested by Canadian customs?
I think you'll find the answer is what the little boy shot at.
Kathleen I would mark it merchandise, I'm willing to bet it will make zero difference one way or the other.
Do read Larruone's post, I've heard the same thing.
Jill didn't CC just get centralized in ONT. ?
I'm sure I read that mail is being processed in one spot now, and that it was causing huge delays.
It was part of some new security plan.

I have had several different packages to Canada shipped airmail from the US take 5 weeks. Oddly enough, during the same peiod I had a package that was shipped ground regular mail take less than a week.
During the time period that all packages were being delayed I maintained a link to a newspaper article describing that problem that I would send to my buyers when I shipped warning them of the potential delay. I have since lost the link, but you might be able to google and find a similar article.
