Question
My listing clearly states "NO PAYPAL". My EOA states "Please pay with with an International Money Order".
Apparently she couldn't use her MasterCard cc to process a BidPay money order (didn't know that) ... so she's processed a Paypal payment to me, and kindly added $10 for my paypal fees.
I have not received an email from paypal, just her email with the copied info. Does payment confirmation emails from paypal have the customer's email addy or paypal's???
It is a good sale for me, and her feedback is splendid....
but I WON'T accept a paypal payment for this.
How can I say this nicely & succinctly IN FRENCH, as I certainly don't want to upset her and possibly lose the sale ?
Answer
can you suggest a western union money transfer?
Answer
I have had this problem alot lately.
I state in my auction the flat rate for shipping in the US and for international bidders to use the BidPay (Westrn Union) link.
Doesn't matter they still try to use paypal and one bidder was going to report me to ebay for not using paypal for international payments and back out of the deal.
Like that was going to do any good. I informed her that they can't do anything about it but she will get a mark for non payment. She finally paid and got her stuff. Now today I noticed that two of my auctions that ended have a bidder from France. Here we go again. She paid with paypal and without telling me she
international.
I don't want to take it and right now I am not sure what to do.
I might have to not take international orders at all. But that will only hurt me.
What to do?????
Answer
If the bidder's only remaining option is to send you cash, I think you'll probably lose the sale.
Answer
ddhafe, here is the paragraph from one of your auctions with the French winner:
OK Now.....Once you win, and after you congratulate yourself, jump up and down and scream happily, and pat yourself on the back, and want to pay by Paypal, then you can click the “Pay Now” icon, and just pay now; it’s sooooo easy. If you are international please wait for a shipping quote and then do the same with the Western Union logo. So easy again. If paying by check or money order you will need to wait for my invoice to be sent to you with my name and address for the payment. I check the mail daily and get excited when I see money in the mail. Go figure!!!
If you don't want your Int'l winners paying with PayPal, then you need to say so clearly. That wording above doesn't do it.
Also, I think there is a block you can use with PayPal directly so that Int'l winners can't use it.
platinum, you might want to look into that block also. Sounds like your terms were clear. Just email your buyer in English if you don't want to accept the PayPal payment.
I've always accepted PayPal from Int'l buyers - no problems yet.
Answer
What is the problem with international buyers using Paypal? I would prefer to pay extra than to have to go through the hassle and wait of sending an international money order, so I can understand the French buyer's actions.
I think a single line, in big bold letters saying "NO PAYPAL FOR INTERNATIONAL BUYERS" would warn me off.
Answer
In this case, I think the French winner fully intended to pay using BidPay. I don't fault the buyer for not knowing BidPay no longer accepts MasterCharge. I looked at the BidPay site. BidPay states it accepts credit cards but nowhere does it state which credit cards - at least, not until you try to pay using MasterCharge.
Answer
I don't understand why you don't want to encourage more international sales by making it as easy as possible to buy. The dollar is doing so poorly, that buying stuff from America is a VERY attractive proposition for Europeans - despite the shipping costs.
Answer
To clarify, I don't accept Paypal at all ... no account, and I won't open one up just for this sale either
Good idea northern-stuff , I can try to relay that. (welcome to here too!)
I'll try using a babelfish translation. I'm fairly certain she already KNOWs what my reply will be, and she figured she'd just try first...simpler for her and all.
But the issue may be made into a bigger issue if I don't handle it right. Oh well, there ARE USA underbidders....
Answer
There have been a number of threads llately from sellers who are trying to enforce a no-Paypal policy and finding that international buyers are fighting their TOS.
I believe that the smoothest way to operate an eBay business is to go with the flow, and that is what I do, My focus is on making the sale and getting paid. As a result my international sales have grown every year and are beconing a major factor in my profitablility.
The couple of dollars Paypal collects is worth the ease of the sale, and a lot better than not having made the sale in the first place.
In a selfish way I hope sellers who avoid international sales and/or accepting Paypal continue to do so. I sell in two very competative areas, and like the higher prices I yield as a result of this reluctance.
