hi,
I use awstats on my website where I host my ebay pics and my webstore.
Starting this month, I am getting dozens of hits from different threads on livejournal. com. why??? for instance, this one:

It is showing 41 hits from this thread. wtheck??? its a bunch of young, gothic, women punks yakking and I see no mention of my ebay auctions or my website anywhere. and I don't sell anything these women would be interested in ! (apologies to young, gothic, women punks everywhere).
I have literally dozens of these liveworld threads showing up this month in my webstats. does anyone have a clue what is going on? to double check, I looked at stats for the last few months and not a single hit from this site at all. and now all of the sudden dozens of threads there???

Go to one of the pages you're getting the hits from. Right-click and view source. Under the Edit button in the toolbar, use Find to search for your domain. That will tell you where the links are.

thanks for that tip, I'm trying that with no damned luck. I'll admit I'm and old prude and it's creeping me out to even be there but I'm damned tired of them stealing my bandwidth too.
I think you all are right it must be an avatar but how the hell to find it. This person is posting apparently all over that board but if I go to the link that is in my webstats and use find, I find no mention of my dot.com. but on the avatars, if you hover over them they show links to livejournal so it maybe that the avatars are transferred from there.
I'm going to have to wash my eyes out with soap after finally finding the culprit, they are going to some really skanky boards.
I wonder if I could write livejournal and tell them what is going on and give them the links and they could figure it out. its taking for blanking ever for these blanking pages to load on dialup for me to figure out if a pic of mine is an avatar or not. and sorry to all the men but I'm also getting damned tired of having to look at naked women!

Well, I doubt it's an avatar because all the avatars are uploaded and hosted on the LJ servers. However, images hosted elsewhere can be linked directly within posts. You gave a little clue here:

They probably liked one of your post cards and hot linked to it. Because of the way the friends system on LJ works, any other LJ to which vintage_sex is linked as a friend can read vintage_sex posts from within their own LJ, thus resulting in hits that appear to originate from a number of different LJ's when in fact the image (or images) are only posted at the one LJ. If you go to look at those other LJ's, you're not going to see the culprit image, and since the vintage_sex LJ is members only, you can't easily get a look there either to confirm. Since it can't be confirmed, I can't say for certain that this is the linking LJ, but it's darn likely, so you may want to try contacing the admin for vintage_sex and see if that gets you anywhere.

thanks a bunch. I saw that vintage-sex journal also and went back a few pages but didn't see anything (but like I said they load INCREDIBLY slow on dialup).
I don't sell nude or even risque postcards so what in the world someone thought was interesting enough to post there is beyond me! though has me curious now, lol.
I contacted liveworld but have heard nothing yet but it is a weekend. My webhost told me how to block access to my webspace from livejournal.com so hopefully that will cure it. if I did it right !

If you could find the image they linked to, you could change it to something that mentioned "bandwidth" theft. Since you've blocked access, it doesn't matter now. But it is one way you could get your point across to the owner of the journal.
