New user can't register at eBay

Question
I just got a call from a lady who has been trying to register at eBay, so she can bid on something I presume, but the phone number fields claim that her regular and cellphone numbers are "invalid".
She was asking us (My better half answered the phone and deftly handed it off to me, as she was cooking dinner at the time)... I digress, The customer was asking us for a phone number to call at eBay, and I feel kind of stupid because in all my years of selling there I never had occassion to call them, and I sure couldn't find a number on eBay's home page.
Is there such a number that I could give her? Seeing as how we quit eBay over a month ago, I reckon they should be doing thier own customer service, on the other hand I want to help.

Answer
I don't believe there is a customer service number for eBay.
Numbers have occasionally been shared by users, never provided by eBay, but they are reported to not help customers.
The best available is the Live Help link on the Home page in the upper right corner just below the word IBM.
That will open a live chat but even that often offer few solutions.

Buyers are very important. So I thank you for trying to help, I bet all us sellers truly appreciate it.
The funny thing is this. If you give someone an eBay telephone number, the first thing the person who answers is likely to ask is: "How did you get this number?" and told to go to the website.
It is all too clear that eBay wants to make money, but not to spend it on silly things like retaining customers. This problem is compounded by their shallow "one set of code parameters fits all" attitude which is the source of your friend's problem.
If you do not fit into their little boxes, you are out of luck.
Perhaps this will change if Meg et cie wake up to their declining growth and profits and decide to make the site more customer friendly and decide to solve some of the festering problems.
I know I am a hopelessoptomist about this, but eventually the time will come. I hope it is not too late in the game to recoujp some of the lost users.
