Question
Threw up a listing last night, and within minutes had an email asking about a BIN for the item....Since it was an "AS IS" and I was starting the auction at a penny, (AND the combination of seller ID & the item just cracked me up!) I accomodated the request for a BIN and went thru a whole bunch o' gyrations (and absorbed 3x listing fees!) to get it set up as a BIN with one bidder approved....Doing all this half asleep (it was about 1:00am!)....Emails flying back and forth with the potential buyer....Then NUTHIN"!....Ok, I emailed sayin' "Good Night" and wake this morning (ok wake this "afternoon") and find the item sitting here, un-BIN'd and a request from another bidder to be added to the pre-approved list....But since I did make the deal with the "late night shopper", here I sit waiting for him.....
NEVER AGAIN!!...My response to such requests in the future will be "Thank you for your offer, but the auction is up and running, and I cannot distrupt it"...
Answer
How aggravating!!
D'ya suppose it might be a competitor's sneaky way of putting your auction on ice?

Hmmmmmmmmmm....good question, BUT, I kinda doubt it...he did bid last night (but that was one of the 'err'd listings that didn't have a BIN)....
You're right tho, it IS aggravating!
Answer
I never added bin at a customers request.
I was always scared that they new something I didn't, and were trying to get out of a potential bidding war.
I figure that they will be waiting a minimum of a week just for airmail, so another few days won't kill them.
If its that dire a circumstance, I just don't need the "where is it" emails.
Answer
I agree this is really frustrating. We can all learn from this.
IF you ever decide to do a special setup for someone like adding BIN, I suggest in the emails back and forth that you set a deadline. Something like "I am pleased to offer this to you at a BIN price of $x, which by the way increases my costs by $y. The offer should be available in x hours and will only be offered through tomorrow at 9PM. If you have chosen to not buy, I will withdraw the offer and reopen it to everyone as that is only fair.
Thanks again....yatta...yatta..."
I agree with Doofy about the bidder worrying about a bidding war and trying to make a steal. I don't mind offering a deal...but that is something beneficial to both parties, not to mention stuffing eBay's coffers.
And I also would not be surprised if the bidder was a competitor. Did you check the bidder's sales to see if that was true?

If it was something that I wasn't sure of, you can bet your "you know what" that there's NO WAY I would set it up to BIN for just them...BUT, in this case it's a very easily findable item and considering the closed auctions for the same item WITH all the bells & whistles, while mine is "AS IS" with nuthin' but the unit, I was really in no danger of "giving it away" as it were....Of course the unseen danger was waiting, and waiting and watching the counter go UP UP UP with only one person able to bid on it
Once upon a time, long long ago, I DID stop and auction and sell the item to a "PLEASE I HAVE TO HAVE IT FOR A BIRTHDAY GIFT" request...THAT one most probably cost me!...
Still waiting....

VERY NICE!....Hope ya don't mind, but I snatched that text and have squirreled it away for the day that I forget all about this and think about doing this again!...

I MAY have lost a couple bucks on the deal, BUT with a starting bid of a penny (WITHOUT any inflated shipping charges to offset that price) I COULD have lost alot more!...To get it done and one more thing OUTTA HERE, was worth the potential loss....

I just checked....Looks like he had a similiar unit that wasn't working correctly, so he probably has all the other pieces he needs for the one I have listed...and then that would make lots of sense, cause he'd rather buy this one for less than those that come with everything, which he really doesn't need...
Still waiting.....
Answer
I would have simply cancelled the auction and had him PayPal the money.
Screw Ebay.
Keep it nice and simple. Thats how I have handled those kind of sales, and only had one deadbeat. The item was relisted and sold.

Yeah, I thought about doin' it that way (espeically after I muffed it up the 2nd time!)...But his ID kinda kept me on the straight and narrow....

Threw up ............
When your post started out this way....I thought "Oh good, I'm not the only one with the flu"
On to the rest of the thread............
I would never change my auction for someone. I do tell them the reserve if they ask. I don't feel it is a secret. It's just there to protect me from loosing on a high dollar item.
