This has always baffled me....HOW can potential bidders see your auction mere minutes after you list it?....I thought there was a lag in indexing???...
I just listed an auction and have already had a email inquiry and the counter shows 6 views???
I'm stumped...

If they have you bookmarked, it will come up immediately if they click to see your other items. It does take it a while to show up in your store though.

Auction listings can now be indexed into the search within a couple of minutes, I think they take longer to get into the category listings. Credit where it is due - this has been a vast improvement on Ebay in the last couple of years. It still runs slow sometimes, but it is usually very fast.

Sheila...you're right, thru seller's auctions I can see the listing, but I'd be surprized if anyone had me on a bookmarked list....I've been selling so sporatically lately, that I just can't see it....

WOW!...That IS impressive...Although I always thought it was the other way around...eg. into category listings first, then into search....
What I SHOULD have done last night was to do a "search" for it to see if it did come up....At that point tho', it was painful just to keep my eyes open and not do a "Mary Hartman" into my keyboard!....I was cleaning and found this thing and had nothing listed and thought, "Hey, I'll take a few minutes to slap this puppy up"...WHO KNEW it would take about a hour (and about 3 relistings to get it right!)...Note to self: one should not operate eBay when drowsy...

Does ebay still send emails for specific search words?
I know I use that at other places like Yahoo, and I've used it in the past at ebay. For example, if I'm collecting green widgets, I could set up something in my account so that ebay would send me an email when new green widgets were listed.

Yeah, I remember that (never had anything set, but I remember it)....BUT, I don't know if eBay still does that or not....IF they do, that could be part of the super speed at which someone found it...

I have never used that service, but a friend that looks for regional photographs told me that he gets a daily email advising everything that matches the search criteria (eg: there may be 6 or 10 lots on a single email).

This search had items that were listed at 9:42 when I did the search at 9:44.
Added: The broader category had items that were listed at 7:19 when I pulled it up at 9:49.

WOW!...That's QUICK!.. ..Guess I'm real "old school eBay" cause I remember waiting HOURS for listings to be indexed!....(even remember some of those REALLY BAD times when it took a day or so!!)...

I've used the eBay search email feature. It still works. Problem is that you really have to narrow down the scope of your search so that you don't get pestered with daily junk emails loaded with worthless info. Not everyone knows how to limit a search using advanced features. I do...
With the new search changes, I am almost motivated to entirely leave eBay. When an explicit search which should list 4 items shows 2500 unrelated items, the site becomes worthless. I hope the final search changes don't move us into that problem.

I just pulled up the search that I linked to above, and had auctions showing that were listed 53 seconds ago (using the official Ebay time at the bottom of the page, against the time stamp on the top auction) ....
The category page showed a delay of one hour and 27 minutes. Those results, in MY opinion, are extremely good and very satisfactory, respectively.

What prompted me to come back to this thread and those speeds of indexing, was this article in the TAG Notes that just arrived.

of resources into trust and safety and we want to be careful not to

the past." The absurdity of this is incredible. Since there is
no abatement of scam listings, eBay openly acknowledges that
they don't monitor listings, and plenty of sellers report their
legit listings show up hours or days after listing, this is trying to
make a flaw look like a good feature with a vengeance. And the
day eBay puts lots of resources into trust and safety, the sun will
rise in the west.
I don't know how fast eBay was indexing on the 6th of March, but the current results surely highlight the lie in the excuse making.
