Which auction software should I use?

Question
I want to set up a website for my local town auction so web visitor whom live locally can place up an auction or bid on it then go pick it up and pay for it locally but I am no programmer however I can manage a website or set up a high traffic website fine and have good experience in that field..
So Ill leave the coding to other so I am looking for a good auction script to use and as friendly user as possible so I was looking for a forum to discuss this with someone else who may run an auction site and might have experience using script from others ..
The two scripts that look good to me is
Geoauctions - http://www.geodesicsolutions.com/pro...enterprise.htm
I purchased thier GeoClassified script and it was easy to install but wasn't as friendly user as I thought it was but pretty close to it and I will be using it to offer local classified but I would like to know anyone who use Geoauction and like to hear some pro's and con's on this script .. It's pricey too .. 799.00 that why I would like some input from actual people whom have used it ..
the other one is
PHP Pro Bid -
http://www.phpprobid.com/
This one seem nice as well too and cheaper too than the GeoAuction but I can't seem to find a Demo administrator area to compare it with GeoAuction so if i missed it somehow .. can you provide the url for demo admin area .. I am sure I gave that site a good look-over for a demo area but didn't find it ..
I would like some pro's con's input from other on this script as well too . Lots cheaper than Geoauction only 210.00 ..
I emailed Geoauction asking for a comparison between their script and the php pro bid script why they think their is worth the money and they said their is a much easier to change the layout design of the auction site by using just plain html code while php pro bid that you would have to know how to php code just to make template for it and you can run into a lots of trails and errors ... I was wondering is that pretty much true statement?
I am open ears and if you think there are other auctions script I should check out and look at let me know please .. I would like to get this up and running asap and am spending most of my weekend to research and find a good auction script to use on my site ..
I would like to remind you that I am only setting up a local town auction website so I won't look into script that cost thousand and thousand of dollar or want to hire someone to write an auction script .. I just want to purchase a good script from a reaiable source that keep it up to date if there was any hole or secuity issue in it ..
I know this may not be the right forum to post it in but I asked in New member area and someone recommand me to try this forum
Thanks for your replies ..
Bill

Hi,
The link for the demo admin area for phpProBid is here but you'll need to get the username/password from the webmaster, I think. Haven't used either software, but thought you might also want to know that GeoAuctions comes in three different versions (free, $400, and $750)... you might be just fine with one of the cheaper versions perhaps? They say the free version may involve php programming, but it looks like if you don't need to make modifications with it, you don't need to modify anything... might be a possibility if you're on a budget.
I think phpProBid is the easier of the two to install, and is somewhat more popular, from what I hear...

Answer
Yeah I emailed them and they sent me a demo account to look around so It look pretty good ..
I am leaning toward to php pro bid but I am hoping for an auction script that would share same database with like mambo or a forum like phorum so visitor could like only register once but use same username and password in all the script on my site .
Thanks for the reply
Bill

Answer
Yea, unfortunately, almost all forums use their own method of storing and verifying user accounts... you'd need to know how to write some php code to integrate the two.

If your looking for something that is relatively inexpensive and has excellent support you might want to take a look at the MakeBid program at http://usanetcreations.com ....
If you want something that has an auction program that shares a common data base with a forum, a classifieds, and a search engine you might want to take a peek at the Mewsoft programs. They are also inexpensive but some people have had issues over support. They have working demos of both the user side and the admin side of the software for you to test.
You can find them at http://www.mewsoft.com

Hi Cbill,
I am really wondering which software package you have choosen cause I am exactly at the same point when you opened this thread.
I am not in US and my auction site will not be for US market. I found a lot of online auction softwares and decided to purchase phpProBid. And my first shock came suddenly when I tried to contact to PhpProBid company, I have got no response for ten days from the company, there are some broken links in their offical website, no registration approval or reject message came from their offical forum page. and now I am about to change my way to another auction software considering that I can not get any tech support from phpprobid if I would purchase it.
I am really in need of someone's advice helping me to get a point on this matter.
thnx
