Best Offer Relist results....

Question
Thought I'd see how the "best offer" feature could help sales, so I relisted a few "not sold" items, using Best Offer (which also meant changing them to "Fixed Price Auctions", which was mandatory in order to use BO)....
First item was relisted with just the eBay provided "Submit Best Offer" button....Auction ended, WITH a purchase, within an hour of the close...Purchase was a "Buy Now" price...No BO submitted....
Reran a few, did the same change to Fixed Price and added BO, BUT, also added right up at the top of the description, BOLDED a "Best Offer" blurb, which explained what BO is about and how to do it (most of it "lifted" from eBay's own explanation)....
Had one auction end last night...SOLD, for the Buy Now price...No BO submitted...
Confusing.....If I saw a BO on something that I was going to buy, I'd certainly submit an offer, before I paid the full price...Would you???

Answer
Maybe you hit the right person at the right time and they were in a hurry? Didn't want to take time for the BO?
I tried it not long after they offered it. Every offer I got was 25-33% of my asking price. Not even close. So I quit using it.

Hey, just had a thought, perhaps the folks I picked up were folks looking for Buy It Now's???...

Answer
Could be. There is a theory (have not seen any stats on this) that some people go to ebay and only look at BIN's because they need it immediately. Makes as much sense as any other theory I expect.
And yes...the "science" of ebay is something to behold!

Answer
I am not surprised at the 25% to 33% offers. Dealers who resell want to buy items at no more than about 40-50% of book value. That is regardless of marked price and regardless of how much someone paid for the item. So if an item doesn't sell, the dealers who probably represent as much as half of the potential buyers won't be interested until they can get the item at a price at which they too can make a profit. The more they pay, the longer they will have to sit on their inventory waiting to find a customer willing to pay the higher price. Also, book value doesn't mean the item in used condition should be worth exactly the book price which was given for the same item in perfect condition.

Answer
Wouldn't it be nice if we could get book price on ANYTHING? I haven't seen book price sales since I started on ebay in 2000.
I pretty much view ebay as a wholesale market. I USUALLY (nothing is ever in stone) shoot for well under BV unless I come across a highly sought after piece.
Ah, the vagaries of ebay and ebayers.....

Answer
I swear everytime I see BO I think Body Odor

Answer
I swear everytime I see BO I think Body Odor You and Tanya both!....Judging by the results of the feature, it just might fall into the "it stinks" category!
I am not surprised at the 25% to 33% offers. Dealers who resell want to buy items at no more than about 40-50% of book value. I have to agree with joflora about book value....Does that really exist anymore, or has it been replaced with "eBay Value"???....
At the point that I'm relisting (unsold merch) even 25%-33% would be nice...All the works been done already (cleaning, pix, measuring, decription, listing, etc) cept the shipping and since I have no other outlet but eBay (or a pennies on the dollar yard sale) I rather sell it for a 1/4 of the asking price, than have it hanging around....
