Question
I thought that this may make a good occassional but ongoing thread. Basically offering little hints that arise for items that may otherwise be overlooked in the hunt for resaleable goods.
This brief article was in Collect It! magazine (UK) - June 2004 issue.
Thomas The Tank Engine.
Any parents planning on car-booting their children's Thomas The Tank Engine trains should take heed. Brio, which lost the license to produce the famous train to Learning Curve, are now very sought-after. Instead of expecting to get 50p a train, unsuspecting parents will find dealers snapping up examples. On eBay recently a mint in box Brio Toby sold for GBP 21.99, a played with, but with box Wellsworth Station made GBP 40.50 and a played with Gordon fetched GBP 12.50.
Not staggering figures, I know, but it is always useful to know when licenses and manufacturers change, as this will often lead to increased prices for prior goods.
Any other similar tips?
Kind Regards, Kevin
(Jim, just shift this to where ever it should be if it is not appropriate in this forum)
Answer
LOL Kevin T., looking at the title of this thread, I was waiting for one of those ground floor opportunities that I get in my email all the time!
Anyway, here's something I tried recently with success. It won't be an everyday thing - but something to keep in mind if you live in a big city with pro sports teams. One of our retired football quarterbacks just made the Football Hall of Fame, and the newspaper published a special section in his honor with articles about his career, statistics, etc. I sold this on Ebay for a decent sum, considering that I would have just recycled the paper anyway!
I know that many newspapers print these special sections when the local team wins the Super Bowl, World Series, Stanley Cup or whatever - just something to keep in mind - the teams fans are not all in the home city!
