Grrr....clothing packaging from sellers lately

Question
It's driving me crazy! I buy a lot of NWT clothing items, and lately it seems that sellers think that the tinier they package it, the less it weighs. I know it's true for boxes, but these aren't boxed item - they arrive in envelopes. Instead of using the tyvek priority envelope, or any similar size, they fold the item(s) into the smallest possible wad and cram it into a manila envelope which they then reinforce with a roll of tape. Cripes, you can't even open it for fear you'll cut the item! If you do get it open, it has 50 fold marks. I just received a jacket and short suit - in a 6 x 8!

Seriously, I think many sellers make serious mistakes in the way they handle their S&H. Unprofessional packaging reflects very badly on the seller IMO. I once bought a computer power supply and the guy simply wrote my name & address on the product box. I feel it should at least have been put in another box with a little padding. I wonder if some of the sellers realize that if an item is damaged in shipment and it can be shown that the packaging was substandard, then the seller is responsible to replace or refund? I get tickled whenever I see "I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ITEMS DAMAGED IN SHIPMENT..." Yes, if the item was not packaged correctly, the seller is responsible.

There was a poster hanging in my PO (JUST missed it, as they have taken it down and discarded it...I wanted to take a picture for S&G's!)....Was an empty box in the backround with a few peanuts scattered in the forefront..Caption read something like "pair of shoes, carefully wrapped and packaged...now that's love" (or something like it, the point being how careful sellers are with the items they pack)...EVERY time I saw the poster my immediate image was a pile of dust, which was previously an heirloom pottery piece reduced to rubble due to horrible packing!...

The seller is responsible according to whom?
If an item is insured and not properly packaged the post office can/will refuse to pay. While I agree the seller should make good on the damaged item, show me where it is in writing?
If the seller is too lazy or uncaring to pack properly, I would not count on them doing the right thing and making things good. What's to stop them from saying, "Well, I told you I am NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ITEMS DAMAGED IN SHIPMENT!"

I once bought a computer power supply and the guy simply wrote my name & address on the product box. I've had that happen as well. It was an item for a gift and the seller just stuck a big shipping label on one side of the box -
It does get aggravating though, good pics are important, but if you look at a lovely/nice item, buy it, and when it arrives, it's the same item and although it isn't damaged but looks much, much worse - the satisfaction level isn't nearly as high as it could have been without much additional effort by the seller.

I've gotten things from qvc that just had a mailing label stuck to the box. Really surprised me the first time (I think it was a toaster oven). And I wondered how you'd return it. The post office keeps telling me you can't send any box that has any writing on unless you cover up the writing. Does UPS take things like that? Luckily I haven't actually had to return anything like that. Maryanne

Recently I received an 8 by 10 manilla envelope that had 2 pairs of denim jeans crammed into it. I cannot figure out how she got those things in there like that. The seams of the envelope were ripped and the only reason they were still there was because she used a lot of packing tape and the packing tape was holding them inside what was left of the envelope.

Did I mess up taking a risk? I sent out nine men's shirts out each in its own large Tyvek USPS Priority Mail envelope with some padding inside and strapping tape wrapped around both directions outside. All 9 arrived in great shape. From what I understand Tyvek plastic envelopes are nearly indestructible. Any horror stories, or should I go ahead and send the remaining two shirts out the same way. It sure saved the buyer some shipping... The paper envelopes are no comparison - junk for anything not paper and flat.
I try to keep everyone happy and if those don't work occasionally, I will try something else. Sign me either lucky nine times, or thrifty and shrewd.

Incredible! I am still amazed when I buy things from eBay in packaging which is worse than substandard. It seems about 90% of everything I buy comes packed (or should I say NOT packed) in a re-used, dirty envelope.
I purchase brand new, clean materials which are designed for shipping. If I re-use packing materials, I ONLY use materials I received in brand new condition from one of my trusted product vendors. Every package (even a soft scarf) goes out, packed as if it were fragile. I have had people say, "thank you for the neat gift wrapping!" because I also wrap each internal item in nice, new tissue paper. I take packing very seriously, and like dstuber, even a shirt deserves to be treated kindly and with safety in mind.
And yet, every time I buy, I get a video game mailed (without padding) in a paper manila envelope that's been used twice.
Blehh!
