Question
Another poll question for ya (just hopin' it's a weee bit more successful than my other poll!..he.he.he! )
Working on streamlining, while maintaining quality pictures....Soooooo, the question becomes:
Do you mind smaller pix in the auction description with a "Click to Enlarge" option to a photo hosting website?
(I've got a cable connection, so it's a non-issue for me in terms of speed to/fro the enlarged pic, but I don't know if it's a royal PITA for those on slower connections)....
As always...TIA

Answer
Click to enlarge works for me IF the enlarged picture is LARGE. I get irate when I click and the daggone picture is only slightly larger ... I've even seen them the same size and smaller. Doesn't make sense to me why the seller even bothers.

I absolutely HATE to click on a picture and it show me the same size picture as the original, which was too small to begin with!
I make my pictures clickable. The ones in the auction are around 300 x 225 pixels and the enlarged version is 640 x 480. I try to size them where if someone doesn't want to click, they still see a decent sized picture. Here's one of our driftwood auctions with clickable pictures. Please note - I was trying to teach DH to take pictures...so these aren't great.
Personally, I think the enlarged photos help. Our driftwood auctions generally end higher than our competitiors and I think the biggest difference is the size and number of pictures we provide.

Answer
most of the time I prefer the "click to enlarge" photos.

Answer
I voted other because it depends
If I do need the click to enlarge, I want the pic to open into a new window, not in the same window where I have to click back-I want to look at the pic while reading the description.
Now, I could right click and open in new window, but 99.99999% of the time I can't do that because either that function is disabled due to right click disabled or the javascript doesn't work. To get around this, some put links and I'll do that as long as the links are IDENTIFIED as larger pics. I've seen some that just had links to the pics without stating what they were(could be more TOS or just whoop as far as I know )
I prefer the pics to be in the auction if possible, AFTER the description, because there is nothing more irritating trying to read the description and it keeps jumping downward as the pics load-give me a headache until I hit the back button

Answer
MGC you'd probably hate my driftwood auction! Sorry!!!
I appreciate the input on the new window though...I think I'll start doing that on mine.

Answer
Nope-the way you've got it set up, the text doesn't jump when the pics load. Not sure why, I'm not html savvy
I can right click on your pics, so that's not a problem either.
Didn't know that driftwood went so high- congrats

Answer
I prefer C2E usually, same as Dove & NotMe - make sure the enlarged image is actually bigger / more detailed. I like them opening in a new window too since I HATE to lose the whole page when I forget and click the X to close the window on the bigger pic.

But what I really wanted to say was:
NotMe, what the heck is a vivarium?
(seriously, 'cause I've ever heard of that!)

~ gem ~

Answer
I use a combo of these. If there are only two photos, then I may not use C2E. If there are 5 or 10, I definately use thumbnails and C2E. The point to the exercise is to get the ad in front of the buyer quickly and if they have continued interest, they can enlarge the photo. The thumbs are tiny file sizes and take very little dial up time to download. The full photos each slow the auction display.

~ gem ~ LOL - Don't feel bad, I hadn't either until we started selling driftwood and people asked if it would work in their "vivarium".
The official definition is: vivarium - an indoor enclosure for keeping and raising living animals and plants and observing them under natural conditions.
