Question
I've never had any problem before when someone made a multiple purchase of an item, it always charges them for each item and I end up sending them some back because of combined shipping.
today though I sold 3 of one item and 7 of another to someone and the ebay checkout only charged them for one of one kind and one of another. This was heavy china so obviously that's no where near enough. I went back into the auctions to be sure they were right and they were, the one was set at $5.00 ea shipping and the other at $7.50 each shipping. instead of 3 times 7.50 plus 7 * 5.00 ebay checkout only charged 12.50 which is what the customer sent me.
like I said, I've never had that happen before. it's always charged them the shipping times whatever they bought. is it just a glitch today? or is it just me? i DID doublecheck the auctions to be sure the shipping amount was stated in them. these were store items if that makes a difference.

Answer
I personally have never had that happen
but I always sent my customers a invoice if I was on because ebay for me never added the shipping when I used the caculator and according to policy grrrrr you cant ask for more shipping once they have paid
best bet if you did use calculator is to not on certain items or place a disclaimer like I will combine shipping when possible and or please wait for me to send you proper invoice with deducted shipping charges if buying more than one item
Answer
What are your settings on checkout for combined shipping showing? I just went to using it and using the highest flat rate and then X$ off additional purchased within 5 days. So far it appears to be figuring it correctly though not in paypal (which is not indicating correct combined shipping, charging the buyer too much) so I send paypal invoice or make a credit on those that have paid.
You could ask the buyer to pay additional shipping (though they probably will state you need to honor the price they were indicated to pay) it's worth a try!
Good luck and let us know!
Answer
I don't use any kind of combined shipping for the checkout. it should add the shipping for every auction and show that to the bidder. I am going to go see if ebay has somehow changed something on their own though or if there is something new that I need to opt out of.
this person paid immediately after buying out of my store so I had no chance to send an invoice.
I have already emailed them for the additional amount due. this isn't my mistake, I have clearly put a fixed price shipping in every auction and I do say I will combine shipping but the buyer has no idea what that will be until they email me.
all of my items are different weights so I don't even attempt to use ebays discounted shipping calculations.
I don't use auction calculators, I put a fixed price in each auction for all zones.
this buyer couldn't very well refuse to pay additional shipping. my shipping prices are clearly stated in each auction and it is not my fault that either he changed it (possible) or ebay added it up wrong. like I said, i do not use ebays combined shipping discount thingey. I prefer to have them pay all shipping and send them a refund. my items are too varied to use ebays discount shipping calculator.
if no one else has ever had that problem then the buyer must have changed the shipping. he's bought from me before and knows that there is no way 3 bowls and 7 plates can be shipped to the west coast for 12.50.
thanks to all for your replies,

It's been doing this to me for weeks. Customers pay the lowest amount. If I send them an EOA with a lower combined shipping than the one ebay sends they can figure out how to pay mine. If ebay sends one that doesn't add the extra $1.00 per item they pay that one and ignore my email. It's really frustrating and it isn't just happening to you, Mel.
Edited to add: I've been refunding the incorrect payment and billing for the correct amount. This is not my fault and I'm not eating the extra paypal fees to collect the missing dollar or two. When the customer pays more than they should, and that sometimes happens too, I simply refund the difference.

Is anyone else having this same problem?
I've had 3 this morning. I finally got a customer who would tell me how she arrived at the amount she sent me. She clicked on the pay now link in the email that eBay sent her. Of course she ignored my personal email.

This weekend I had my first multiple sale after a vacation from eBay for a while. They did change the way the shipping is added. On mine, it added just the amount of shipping for one item. I hit the recalculate line and then it added complete shipping amounts for both items. So, I just put in the correct amount and sent the invoice along. I don't know what amount it would have computed if the customer paid before I sent the invoice.

I can't possibly be the only person struggling with this. I had another two today so I know that eBay's engineers haven't fixed the problem yet.
This is the last thing I've heard:
Thank you for writing to eBay.
The engineers have not given us an exact time frame, only that this has
been given a high priority level and hope to have it solved soon.
Thank you for being part of the eBay community.

I can only believe that ebay/paypal is making money off of this "glitch" so why fix it? I imagine not everyone is refunding the whole payment and requesting the correct amount, but rather simply requesting the difference. That way an extra per transaction fee is generated for ebay/paypal.
It’s really frustrating for me to have to hassle my customers to pay me twice.
