Question
I have noticed that most people don’t make reference to a refund policy in their listings. Do you? Assuming of course that the item was described correctly.
If so, how long do you allow for a return and do you charge a restocking fee of some kind?
Thanks again from the newbie!
Answer
I do not reference a return policy, I do not want to encourage the old bait n switch situation.
if someone wants to send something back, 99 times it is .....no questions asked send it back for a full refund including postage both ways. it happens so infrequently it is not an issue.
One alias I ran this return policy in print for a year, it was a specialized item that could not be stitched, so I took up page space for a year. I had one return in a 1,000 transactions. I took it off the page, and it hasn't made any difference except make the page look better with out all that TOS crapola on there.
of course there is always that 1 time in a hundred
Answer
I don't! If someone wants to return something they will get in touch, you don't need to encourage buyers to do this on your auction page. In over 4,000 transactions this has never been an issue. I have had maybe 6 items returned.
Answer
I do!
All items can be returned. Contact within 10 days of receipt. If not as described, full refund plus return shipping. If Buyer Remorse, bid amount less fees is refunded and they pay return shipping.
I have never had a problem with remorseful buyers, bait n switch or such. But I deal in collectibles...
My philosophy is that most news about ebay is bad..scammers, fraud, theives, cheese sammiches.....
So new bidders especially are going to be nervous and looking for reassurance. If they know they can return, and the guidelines, then that is a bit of extra incentive for them to bid on my auction over someone else's.
IMHO, returns are a cost of doing business. I don't get many, but when I do, its a tax write off and a chance to resell usually. Keeps the customer happy, sometimes makes me more money in the long run and is not a lot of extra work.
I am, however, slowly building my backbone up to only issue partial refunds on lost mail if they didn't buy my Delivery Guarantee (shamelessly stolen from Toy Ranch I think it was, thank you!).
My current post office must use pack mules for mail transport. In 2 states and 4 cities, this one is the slowest BY FAR. Arrrrrrrrrrrrr
Trying a new branch tomorrow, should be interesting. Anyone want to be my Test Package recipient?
Answer
Since we sell antique, vintage and unique items we are unable to guarantee anything except that they are just as described, and will only refund if we have inadvertantly made a signifigant error. We include a sentence or two to that effect in each auction. It is rarely an issue, we provide a very detailed description and clear views of every item, being sure to show and include everything that we would wish to know ourselves if we were the ones interested in it.
We DO want to satisfy though, so in actuality we would likely accept returns for even somewhat dubious reasons, but it hasn't really been an issue in about 1800 sales.
We also add a prominent sentence to encourage bidders to ask any questions or comments prior to bidding. It includes our email address (not a link however, which I believe not allowed).
Answer
I have always had a return policy clearly posted in my regular auctions, even before ebay had a form for it, and I always look for such a policy before making ebay purchases.
The only exceptions have been some used sporting equipment items I sold "as is".
Answer
We offer a money back guarantee if an item is misrepresented. Refunds for any other reason are for final bid amount only. We must be notified within 3 business days, with item returned within 10 days in same condition prior to refund.

Answer
Yes we do. If the item is misrepresented or if it gets broken during shipping. Here is a portion of our return policy, "Returns that apply to damaged items, MUST have been insured by buyer to qualify."
Answer
I do. Full refund on items not as described (including shipping), for buyer's remorse they get purchase price minus fees and no shipping, buyer to pay return shipping. Items must arrive back to me in the condition I sent them or all bets are off.

Reading this thread reminded me to revisit the AboutMe page for "noodlebooks".
I bookmarked it about a year ago & still get a chuckle each time I read its TOS/return policy

It's nice to see the seller still has 100% feedback after operating under these "terms" for the past year
