Question
ended auction
I recently sold this piece of pottery. I thought all was well. We exchanged positive feedback.
Today I get a email from the buyer, that his father got back, and looked the jug over, and wants a refund. The auction had 3 pictures and a link to a photo album with about 20 pictures total.
I sold this for my son, and have already gave him the money.
I don't think I have to refund now....
do I ?
Answer
Well, I couldn't find any return policy of yours so...
I would probably allow a return.
I would refund the bid amount, less ebay and if relevant Paypal fees,
and they would be responsible for return shipping costs, insurance
recommended.
Buyer appears to be a crock collector, or buying for one.
Answer
I re-read my auction .....I don't see a return policy.
I do have in the bottom part....please ask questions before you bid.
Buyer has been a bit difficult all the way through this.
Never asked a question. Bid in the last minute of the auction.
Would not pay the priority shipping....demanded parcel post.
Did not want to pay insurance. I did get $ 1.30 out of him for the insurance, and I paid the difference to fully insure the piece.
His father's reasoning is.....the jug is stained and the dimple is bigger than they thought it was. There was 20 pictures total, and I gladly would have answered any questions or supplied more pictures.
My guess is they bought it for resale, and maybe what they paid for it, is about what a collector would. I thought buyer was a collector.
Buyer DEMANDED his feedback, and I asked him to wait till he had the jug, and he was happy with it. I asked him to leave feedback first so I knew all was well, and within the hour of him posting mine, I gave him his feedback.
I really thought it was a completed transaction at that point.
I have saved all his emails, and left the photo album up.
I was very professional and polite, in my emails to him.
Answer
It's been less than 2 weeks since the end of the auction.
You don't have a return policy that states any restrictions, so I think you should refund. The decision on who pays postage and fees would be based on their reasons for the return. If they "don't like it", that's one thing. If they think it's a fake, that's another.
Answer
I say no return.
With all of those photos, the reason for return just doesn't hold water with me.
Answer
This is a copy and paste from his email.....
*Well, I guess I will be returning the jug back to you. My father got back, and doesn't want it-he says its a lot more stained than it looked & the dimple is too big of an indentation-looked a lot smaller in the photos.*
Answer
depends on your situation, this is a decision of the heart....there was nothing wrong with your ad, every thing is well informed, great pics by the way.
if you don't want to refund him, don't
if you want to do the "Iamasmilingseller" and refund him just because it is the right thing to do, in your opinion, then go ahead, there is no right or wrong here. Only you know what to do. you are the one who has to live with the decision, it depends on your thought process and your constitution.
Editted to add: I don't recall anything in the eBay rules that say if you get something and you don't like it you get to ship it back for a refund, which is virtually what he said is the problem.
My father got back, and doesn't want it
Answer
I feel I took my time with the auction.
I researched the item.
I took quite a few pictures, and did enclose the picture album and I took the pictures in the inside of the house, and using natural light with the door open.
I don't want to refund, and I can live with that decision.
Buyer also wants me to let him know when I find other things in the pottery line for him to buy without it ever seeing ebay.
Buyer is now on my blocked bidder list.
Answer
Tell them no.
The sale was not contingent upon his father "liking" it.
You sellers that would refund under any circumstances - are you trying to promote sales on approval?
Just because you don't have a return policy doesn't mean you have to accept them. Unless otherwise stated all sales are final.
Answer
I agree, not liking something is not a valid reason for a return IF you don't want to accept a return. You've got everything on your side, receipt of item so paypal won't allow a chargeback. You already have feedback. The pictures are pretty clear and show stains.
