Ebay closed auction. States fraud???

Question
I sell a very popular line of ladies accessory items. This one item ended last night. It was a retired piece and sold for a substancial $$ amount. Winning bidder email sent out, I find an email from Ebay this morning stating they ended the auction as it was a fraud item. I sell the authentic line and have a lot of happy buyers. Anyway, it was just the one auction that was shut down. I have several other auctions going with this same line of product, just different styles, and they were not touched.
My first thought is this is a competitor... What do you think? There is one other seller that has this same retired item that ends in a couple of days...
By the way, as I said this auction ended and my automatic email went out and everything. I looked up the item on ebay and it states invalid item.
Has anyone else had this happen. Looks to me like if they thought this one retired piece was a counterfeit, why wouldn't they think the rest of the same items were not counterfeit as well...
Some input please
Thanks
Holly

Answer
I'm confused. If eBay ended the auction, how can the auction listing show a winning bidder? I thought when eBay ended an auction they cancelled all bids OR removed the auction completely from their database so that it could not be viewed.

Answer
an auction can be vero'd after it closes, been there. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...icon_frown.gif

I had something similar recently happen but as the buyer. I bought several batches of address labels from a seller. Almost a week after the auction ended - I had already paid for and received the labels - I got an email from ebay saying the auction had been cancelled because of a listing violation and that I was not obligated to complete the auction if I didn't want to. The auction was even pulled from my completed items list and I can't leave feedback for it.
I noticed that the seller had very recently left negative feedback for a newbie who never paid for their item. It was obvious the newbie was upset and left some crazy feedback about the grandmother having been hopsitalized - but apparently still never bothered to pay for the auction. I had a really strong feeling that it was the bidder who turned in the seller. I'm not exactly sure what the listing violation was - maybe that it was a "choice" auction and it wasn't done properly? All I know is the seller has relisted the auction and I can't see any big difference from the old one but the old one is now an invalid item so I can't compare them.

Imosh: I posted a message on the website you mentioned. Thanks
mapledr: Gosh, I didn't know a buyer or just anybody could report you for fraud, I've just never even thought about it really. This is a pain in the butt! I wonder if ebay would tell me who is responsible for all this? I doubt it...

Imosh: I forgot about your question. Was the item vero'd? This is what was in the subject line:
IN NOTICE: eBay listing(s) Removed- Replica and Counterfeir Items.

Answer
And I'm back to the question I ask a lot.
When did eBay acquire the staff and expertise to determine that an item is counterfeit?
When you get VeRO'd they tell you they can't get involved because they don't actually handle the item and they don't know.
Repeat after me "eBay is just a venue"

Answer
I had something similar happen.
Auction ended. Buyer paid. Item sent and received. Postive Feedback left by both of us.
Three weeks later, I get an email from ebay stating that the auction has been "canceled" (VERO) and an email has been sent to my buyer informing them they don't have to complete the sale.
I didn't want a false complaint on my ebay record, so I sent an email stating the facts to the company that had lodged the VERO complaint.
Two days later I get an email apology from Ebay and am informed that my auction was canceled "in error" and had been "re-instated."

Answer
See, this whole "in error" thing gets me. First off, eBay is quick to send out the 'your seller is a crook' email. They say they send out a 'your seller is not a crook' email but I have yet to have any of my bidders get one.
Also, these VeRO members swear under penalty of perjury that the item is infringing. I don't know about you, but before I swear something I'm sure about it.
What would happen in a court of law. You swear something. Someone else says here are the facts. Do you think the judge would have a sense of humor about it if you said, oops I made a mistake?
