The front page of today's San Francisco Chronicle carries the above headline, and the article does not put eBay in a very good light with its response to combating online fraud.

Only a small fraction of 1 percent of eBay listings is confirmed to be fraudulent, Durzy said. Confirmed by WHOM?? Ebay, of course, who has the greatest incentive to drop any "confirming" process flat on its face. What a bunch of scumball liars, as usual. Fortunately, it does appear various media venues are wising up and giving counter-quotes that make the real situation quite clear.

Might doubtful accounts and authorized credits recorded by ebay be a way to judge "problems"? Looking at year over year figures 2004 did not appear to be a kind year for ebay.
