Disclaimer: As a member of the "Voice of the Community" program (Voices) for over three years (January 17th, 2002 - January 25th, 2005) I have signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement forbidding me to reveal any information acquired as a result of my participation in the program. I ask everyone to please respect my dilemma and not ask questions I cannot and will not answer.
The information below is based strictly on public information available on eBay and does not include any "inside" information. It is based on my 6+ years on eBay as a seller, 6 years as a PowerSeller and 4+ years as an eBay store owner.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Announcement of January 12th:
"Items that are scheduled to begin on eBay.com or eBay Motors after midnight Pacific Time on February 18, 2005 will be charged based on the new fees. "
Basically, all store inventory listings on the site prior to February 18th will be charged FVF based on the current (old) fee schedule. Many store owners may have misunderstood the timing of the new FVF increase.
The date the new (higher) Store FVF schedule goes into effect is not February 18th but whenever you list or relist or renew a store listing after February 17th.
Some sellers may benefit from listing store items for 120 days prior to February 18th, allowing them the benefit of the current (old) fee schedule until the end or completion of their listings.
Please do not take my word for it.
Contact LIVE HELP on eBay Home page and ask the question:
"If I list a store inventory item for 120 days on or before February 17th, will eBay still charge me the current (old) FVF even if the item is sold in March, April, May or early June?"

How to convert your store listings from GTC (Good Till Cancelled) to 120 days ?
There are many ways.
If you only have a few listings, the exercise may not be worth your while. In fact, you may decide that paying 60% more rent for your eBay store after February 18th is not worth it.
For those with many listings generating substantial sales from your eBay store, look at it this way:
for every $1,000 in sales, you will save $27.50 (5.25% instead of 8.0%) in Final Value fees. If you sell $5,000 in the four month period from mid February to Mid June, you will have saved $137.50, etc....
In mid February (before the 18th) you can "end early" your listings and either "relist" or "sell similar" individually with 120 day duration. If you take two minutes per listing, you can do 30 or so an hour.
Others may use the Selling Manager Pro and end their listings, bulk revise and relist all store items.
Others may upload all store listings to Turbo Lister, close the store, reopen it and bulk revise and relist all store items.
If you have a better and easier way to do it, please post your solution here.
Good Luck all.

Hiya commentary. No, he's not the "it's only a dollar" Pierre.

Answer
I guess the real Pierre would not care about saving on FVF.
Wonder what he thinks about all this.

Answer
I have over 2,000 items in my stores
I am not closing them and revising them and relisting them to save 137.00
the savings would be wiped out by the time lost listing fresh inventory to auction for instant income during the peek selling season
not good math to me.....but a good theory if it is workable for you.

Answer
Hmmmm, I have a little over 300 prepared ... anyone know if this really would work? Someone named Mary posted they confirmed current (old) fees would be charged if listed for 120, and sold items would also be charged with the previous method. It would be an easy couple clicks for me to change them to 120 days ...
Think we can trust this? Even trust if eBay says ok, old fees will apply if listed prior to Feb increase?

Answer
gabs average price of your items in store is around $2.50?
I guess the problem with this approach is that one is paying the insertion fee for 4 months. So if one decides to move the inventory before the time is up, one have to factor in this loss versus the FVF savings from any sale during this period.
Also, keeping the same large inventory in store for 4 months may be a hinderance to any auctions during that time frame. Things will get kind of clutter. I like to rotate inventory items monthly just to keep number of items manageable.

Answer
FLvamp, a number of people have asked LiveHelp if the old fees would apply in this situation and the answers were all "yes". Now, whether LiveHelp knows what they're doing or not is another question.

Answer
I am not closing them and revising them and relisting them to save 137.00 Just raise your prices and keep listing... look at the long haul, not the short side.

Answer
I can't speak for anyone but me, but I consider my time to be worth money too. It would take me the better part of a day to cancel and then relist store items for 120 days, and then relist them again after that.
The time spent would more than cancel out potential savings. Not to mention the aggravation of dealing with eBay's unstable site.
