Been away and have a question???

Question
I took the summer off and have started listing again. When I went to revise an auction, in the payments area, it showed my full name and home address!! Please tell me this is not visible to anyone that bids or wins an auction. If it is, what about an irate deadbeat, or just someone wanting someones home addy? This has me very worried.

Answer
I "think" that your name and mailing address is visible if you do checkout. I don't think it's visible if you've opted out of checkout. I don't use it as a seller and I only use it as a bidder if I have no other option.
That said, people who weren't around before the implementation of checkout probably don't know that there is actually another method of being contacted for payment.
Did I answer the question http://community.here.com/infopop/em...icon_smile.gif ?

Answer
Furkidmom,
Unless you're using a P.O. Box, a deadbeat would have your home address already, if you sent an end-o-auction e-mail telling him/her where to mail payment.
An unsuccessful bidder would not have access to your address as it does not appear on the auction page.
If anyone wanted your home address, I think the easiest way to get it would be to bid and win one of your auctions. That's always been the case.
By the way, if you are a winning bidder of an auction, the end of auction e-mail from eBay will now tell a seller your name, city, state (and country).

Answer
I have raised this yesterday/today in the adjacent forum.
Irene,
I am one who uses a P.O.Box. I am not concerned about people knowing my home address, but I am concerned about payments not arriving if Ebay gives out a non-postal address as my payment address.
I am also concerned by my full name being given since Ebay (for one) considers this to be a security factor when they contact me directly (eg: to update my expiring credit card - as was raised in Auctionbytes earlier this year).
In any case a credit card billing address may not even be the residential or main postal address of a user.
I am currently trying to set up an auction and have it bid on by someone I know, hopefully without being accused of shilling, so that I can find out what information is being given out.
If my registration informmation is given out without my approval (and I have not approved this useage of information that is not relevant to my buyers), then I consider this a serious breach of security and confidentiality.
If the info is not supplied to buyers or anywhere else, I am just creating a storm in a teacup. I don't know why that information is being used anywhere outside of the registration and credit card information pages though.
Concerned (but hopefully unnecessarily), Kevin

Answer
Kevin,
When you have your test auction, have the winning bidder sign in after the auction and see what they find on the closed auction page that they won. If you are check-out enabled, have him go through various payment options without completing to see what shows up. I'm pretty sure that I've seen full name and address information when required to use Checkout on auctions I've won. Interesting enough, some of the addresses have been obviously fictitious.
I don't think this is new. It might be new to you when you're going through the SYI page (which I also don't use) but I'm pretty sure this information has been out there ever since check-out started.
I'd be curious to find out what your test auction reveals - please be sure to include whether you are checkout enabled or not. Thanks!

Answer
Kevin,
If you're doing a test auction, I suggest placing it in this eBay category: Test Auctions
(Note the words that sellers are using (e.g. "nothing for sale") to prevent bidding by others.
I looked up an auction I won on Sunday to see what information about the seller was sent to me by eBay in their EOA e-mail. The information given was name, city, state (and country).

Answer
I didn't know that there was a test auction category, so SSSHHHHHH!!!!!! http://community.here.com/infopop/em.../icon_wink.gif
I don't use PayPal or Checkout. My address does not turn up in the EOA, in the Buyer's My Ebay or on the Auction Page when they are logged in. This was for an auction listed after this info was added to the SYI page.
I still do not know why my registration details are turning up elsewhere on the site, but so far there are no apparent implications.
Kind Regards, Kevin
By the way, I thought that the picture on this test auction was a classic.
