Here's where our FLD went!

Question
I have a couple bidder ID's.
I just got an email titled: "Start selling on eBay: first 3 listings free!"
I won't try to repro the graphics, but here's the pertinent part:
"*Offer includes insertion fees and Gallery Upgrades for up to 3 listings. Offer good for first time eBay sellers only. Items must be listed in the time period starting January 5, 2005 at 00:00:01 PT (12:00 AM plus one second on January 5, 2005) and ending January 9, 2005 at 23:59:59 PT (11:59 PM plus 59 seconds)."
What a slap in the face to me (and all the other sellers scrapin' along)! We who have been giving them fees all year long for a dreadful sell through rate. I'm so frickin' mad right now - I'm glad no one is here listening to me!

Answer

Answer
Just like so many big companies – more interested in the customers that they don't have than the ones they do have.

Answer
They have done a similar promotion in Australia - twice I think, but definitely once (I have never sold on my buying ID which is registered through the Australian site).
It is just a promo, the first 3 listings of a few thousand new users does not substitute for a free listing day. 100 listings at ten cents is far bigger savings than 3 free listings, so I do not see it as a slap in the face to existing users.
I don't see the two as having any bearing on each other, but I do appreciate why those who planned for heavy listing on free listing day would have been sorely disssappointed.

Answer
I think corrdogg said it best.

Answer
I agree with Kevin, the two have nothing to do with each other. I'd much rather have unlimited 10 cent listings than 3, or even 10 free ones.
I just wish they'd stop trying to woo new sellers and figure out some great promos for new BUYERS.

Answer
The problem is we all beotch and moan, but we don't do anything about it.
I'm not in a position where I could join in on some boycott or protest or whatever. I need the money, dismal sell through or not, and I'm very sure ebay knows that the majority of us that sell regularly on ebay are in the same boat. They no longer have to foster any good will.
All we can do is beotch. I know it and Meg and co. know it.
