10 Cent Listing Day - What's Happening Statistically?

Question
What is MedVed reporting at this stage, and how does the rise compare to the Free Listing Days of other years?
The only statistics I can offer are the listing numbers originating from Australia. The promo does not apply to listings placed on the Australian site, but in the past substantial numbers have gone onto the US/home site from Australian sellers.
The number of all Australian listings 10 minutes before 10 cent day started were 263,911 almost 12 hours in they are 272,688.
This search gives all Australian listings, whichever site they are placed on. Early December the count was up to about 475,000. It should be noted though that at this stage this is overnight figures as we are approaching 7:00 am here (east coast), and the 10 cent day started at 7:00 pm our time.
Let us know what statistics you have.
Cheers, Kevin

Answer
Medved has the day starting at about 8,100,000 and now is at about 9,600,000.

Answer
Nothing like FLD's of old, but also not giving the perception of bogging down the site either. I will probably start listing my "good" stuff a bit quicker this year.

Well there's still 12 hours to go. I'd like to see the numbers stay down, maybe to show eBay that sellers are thumbing their noses at their annual holiday gift.
I am not listing at all. I should. I should get up at least the high dollar auctions. But I'm fed up with eBay's treatment. I'm not even angry about no FLD. I'm not seeing much anger on the boards either. I'm seeing the same thing I'm feeling. Just another one of eBay's slaps, oh well, get used to it, looking around for a better place to go. Ennui I believe it is called. Everyone has been slapped so many times that this one doesn't even sting, it was expected. Of course I hang out on the book sellers boards and they've been slapped plum out of their chairs this year. I've seen many posts today from people moving on, this was the straw they needed.
I stopped listing books a while back and started listing them on Alibris, where they are actually selling for real money. No hassles.

I will be listing 20 stereoviews this morning for 10 days, because the timing suits me. Since I usually list for 7 days, but consider the 10 days a *need* at this time of year (I hope that both American and Australian bidders will compete - and it is holiday time in Australia), I get a saving of 5 cents on my usual 7 day auctions. Whilst this is more than I have previously listed on Free Listing Day, it is only working on getting some items into the mail on a Friday afternoon (thus effectively getting some earlier turnover), and not any support of Ebay's policy.

I passed. It's cheaper to go through my store.

Answer
I usually toss on 100 or so auctiond..today I put on 18 that I had ready anyhow.
I watch the vinyl records pretty close and there is usually 150,000 to 170,000 on Ebay on a normal day...this morning there was around 100,000 and as of 6pm CST there is 143,000..last year on FLD they swelled to over 200,000 ..i don't think they'll make it this year.

Answer
Current Australian listing numbers are 297,363 up from 263,911 just prior to the start of 10 cent listing day. Given that it is almost midnight on the Tuesday after Christmas, it is hard to say whether the majority of the increase is natural attrition (ie: listings returning after a Christmas break).
Hmm, Kevin

Answer
eBay US bottomed at just over 8 million and grew 6 million on "Almost FLD"
I believe the numbers usually double so eBay got about 75% of the previous usual increase.
Considering that about 1 million listings were likely ending yesterday that had to be replaced for the numbers to grow it would seem about 7 million listings were posted.
That's an extra $700,000. which is a nice boost to a slow week.
As sellers seemed to have focused on higher end items the longer term FVFs will likely be good.
All in all it looks like another positive step for eBay in grinding every possible dollar out of their customer base.
If you can step aside from your personal involvement, eBay certainly should be admired as a profit generating machine. It is relentless in creating ever increasing net dollars of growth.
So did the railroads, airlines and the IBM PC division.
These business have their Day and then things change.
It will be interesting to watch the evolution of Internet business. It may follow the pattern of farming where small, independently owned identities are driven out of the marketplace and big companies dominate production.
I personally believe individuals will learn how to circumvent greedy middlemen like eBay and reach customers with individualized products and services that will allow an unprecedented economic improvement in a broad population throughout the world.
Then again, I am at heart an incurable optimist in believing that the power rests with people and they eventually find that power and overcome. We see that happening in the Ukraine and China today but need to remember it often takes decades for results to become apparent.
In two hundred years they will look back on this period as a time when there was a dramatic positive change for the world as information and business passed into the hands of individuals due to the Internet. We are worker bees that seldom can see what effect our cumulative efforts are creating.
You are part of one of the most positive revolutions that has ever happened. As usual the vast majority of participants, like us, only see our daily efforts.
We will never be mentioned in the history books but we are the fuel, the indispensaable force that will bring this revolution to it's positive conclusion.
You are the building block of history.

Reston-ray...why is it I have a vision of you standing in front of a giant flag that is softly waving and with the muted strains of "Battle Hymn of the Republic" playing softly in the background...and as you write your final words "you are the building blocks of history", the music raises in volume and fireworks explode behind and around the flag?

Sorry...not that I disagree with you, but the image was particularily strong as I read what you wrote!
