Question
Got this message just now
"Hello, I apologize for any inconvience but I no longer want this pair of shoes. They are not the pair that I thought that I was bidding on. I would like to cancel my bid. Please let me know the process that needs to be taken. Thank You."
Now my auctions have very clear pictures so I think the real reason is that she bought something "similar" at a lower price. BTW shes a newbie (ugh)
My instinct is to be nasty but I told her that if she needed to cancel then she needed to do it herself ( if shes going to be flakey she needs to learn the process) I also told her she could sub for any other style we make ( me being nice but really I know shes going to have some lame excuse about it)
So what to do what to do.
Answer
Offer them a mileage guarantee on the one's you're selling. If they cancel their bid they cancel their bid. eBay is eBay, but unless they really abuse the privilege I feel that canceling bids does no harm unless the listing is close to ending. I have had a few people post bids and then back out, apparently to uncover the high end of the previous bidder's proxy bid...
Yep, people are basically good but its rather subjective, defining really good vs "just ok" good vs not that bad vs not that evil vs "well, its legal" vs stretching the truth vs gullibility vs stupidity vs buyer's remorse vs WOMD vs no WOMD, etc.
Auction terrorists, I tell ya... its a new world out there and we have to adapt.
Answer
I would cancel their bid. Being a newbie if they win they just won't pay, then you are left waiting, having to file for your fees back, etc. I would cancel the bid and save yourself the hassle.
Answer
They cancelled the bid. The other shoe she bought was the same brand just a different style. All to save $3. Ah well.
