Question
It's happened again. A customer writes to me to tell me she's paid me twice through PayPal.
Pardon me for a moment while I scream:
WHY IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE!?!
Think about it. There's NO reason why anyone should be able to pay the same amount twice.
So much for the "geniuses" at PayPal and eBay.
I am actually having a wonderful Christmas season, believe it or not. It's just that I despise stupidity no matter what time of year.

Answer
I had that happen once recently, but it's very rare that it happens with my customers.
But recently, one of my customers who'd bought several Large Print books over a period of a couple of weeks, accidentally paid for 3 books twice. These 3 books had been part of a 4 book multiple purchase, and they were invoiced as a combined invoice. She paid it and I shipped them. The next week she'd bought more and I sent a combined invoice for the new purchases. When she paid for those, she also paid again for 3 of the 4 that went with the last shipment, all in the same PayPal payment.Turns out the 1 book of the 4 showed as paid in her PayPal record and in my My eBay list, but the other 3 showed as Unpaid.
I don't know how that could have happened.

That is what is known as "Pure Profit".
Answer
Not when you refund the overpayment.

Ahhh.. an apparent flaw in your business plan.
Answer
If a bidder is using "My Ebay" to track what auctions they have paid for, and not, then they might double pay because the My Ebay page does not instantly update with each payment.
Answer
It's been a month and they still show in my My eBay as Unpaid. Had to look just now out of curiousity.
Answer
They will not show as paid in "my Ebay" unless you paid through the Ebay page.
Most of my customers pay from my invoice link and they do not show up paid (which causes a lot of confusion).
I'm not sure why Ebay refuses to link the paid with the payment regardless of how the person reaches the Paypal site.
Answer
There's an old saying that goes like this:
"Anytime there is a question starting with `Why don't they...' the answer is usually money."
Billions for marketing, not one cent for actual workable improvements.
That's our eBay!

Answer
the transition between eBay and Paypal IS awkward...
I tried to pay for 3 combined auctions today using My eBay/$Paypal through my foxfire browser - which I have almost everything possible turned off - javascripts, etc. When I was logged in to eBay and looking at the 3 individual auctions, eBay said that I had paid for 2 of the 3 auctions (not true). When I tried to pay, it combined all 3 auction totals and even got the correct (reduced) shipping amount. I was surprised that it worked that well. So I continued to $Paypal and proceeded, sucessfully to the final "pay" button... where it stopped and would not let me pay... just refreshed the screen with a new "Pay" button. When I switched to a less secure browser, I could finish the payment.
I would guess that some people would have assumed that their transaction was complete. At least all the ones I used to sell to! I'm just glad you guys are training all the new recruits so that when I get back to selling it will be easier!
