"Many software developers have created sniping software for use on other Auction websites. Additionally, individuals frequently snipe auctions manually by waiting to place their winning bid until the final seconds of the auction. "
Like who?
Sniping is half the fun of buying on eBay. And half the fun of selling on eBay as you get to see nothing nothing nothing, and then 3 bids on your item in the last minute!
OV is just trying to be different than eBay, that's all. However, it is great that eBay has competition!

Answer
As a seller, I do not like sniping. I feel that sniping or last minute bidding, promote low auction prices. Why would a buyer bother to bid early? Wait until the very last minute, and you might get the item for opening price, right? Great if you are buying, but try paying the bills with that type of bidding scheme. Some of the new sniping software are so obnoxious as to "guarantee to get the bid". As a seller, I list items at a fair starting price, also close to my cost, hoping of course to generate interest and receive bids. I really do not want to continue to sell items so close to my cost. I wish there was a way to curtail the sniping.

In the past I had listed one book to try overstock and did sell it right away, but couldn't find my password, so I haven't been back to it.
I tried to list on wed on free listing day again, and out of 10 different tries over the day, I only could get in once and started listing an auction to sell, and it kicked me out, without letting me finish listing it, so I didn't try to go back again wed.
I guess I will try to list again tomorrow, but since you can't import auction listing from anywere else, it means having to do whole new write up and right now I have been selling mostly the same things, and have pretty long write ups and hate to do them all over again.... but o'well it is important to get those listing done to get more sell, so I guess I will do it tomorrow.
Off to bed with me now...and hope everyone has a good night !

MA, can't you just copy-paste the bulk of existing text from elsewhere to get it into "O"? I listed a handful of things there prior to the free day and two did in fact sell with possibly the order being expanded after a bit of negotiation, but there was no bidding so the price was about at cost after the fees. At least the site does allow extra sales like that with no extra fees since there's no provision for listing more than one for sale as a Dutch or whatever. Certainly I have no desire to fight for visibility through the clutter of a free day so maybe in another several days I'll try expanding what I show.
The page views did look a lot more than what I'd get in the dead areas of Yahoo (meaning most categories there) but then the "O" listing fees are a LOT more too. Frankly, they could mount up too quickly relative to sales there with many non-sales and multiple relists, IMO. Perhaps the ongoing ads for "O" in general will drive viewers in, though.
