Answer
Why are they called suicide doors?

Answer
Good question!
Hubby said that was what they were called, I assume it is the way the doors open. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...n_confused.gif maybe Steve will know. Hubby is as work or I would ask him.

Answer
"In the old days, these doors were prone to open in a crash. Since this was before the time of seatbelts, a driver or passenger could easily be thrown forward, right out of the car and onto the street in an accident. So driving a car this dangerous was said to be "suicidal." And that's where they got the name "suicide doors."

I also thought that they were dangerous because if you opened your car door to oncoming traffic and were starting to get out, the traffic could clip the edge of the door and slam it on your legs. With forward-hinged doors, the traffic would just knock the door forward off the hinges.
