Question
Do they think a 6+ years on eBay seller is gonna be fooled by the nonsense? I mean honestly! (LOL, poor choice of words for this thread)
Aside from the horror of your relatives dropping like flies once you start a buying career on eBay ... it also seems to fry some folks' brains.
I swear (both the bad words & taking an oath) I can smell 'em from the first email.
They mostly start out ok, but they all have that tendency to go overboard just a little. You know, way too much info. In my experience, the genuine folks are short and sweet.
I've got 3 lates and laters this month. One fool emails 8 days after the auction and 2 reminders: "What did I win, hon? How do you want payment?"
So I go through the eBay & PayPal invoice process again on 10/8. I get an email saying she had all the info now, thanks for sending it (like it hadn't been already sent thrice), yada yada yada and I'll send payment today. Ok, she's in SC, me in FL - mail takes 2 days. When the 14th comes and no payment (I obligingly waited since Monday was a holiday), I open an UPI. Hoooo boy did that generate some activity!!
Check out these messages in most recent order (names replaced with "buyer" and "seller" to protect the freaky):

I'm tired of being hassled everywhere by this-I'm sick of the whole mess=Not buying anything on ebay anymore-you can keep your pattern and the money!!!!! I'm sick of this entire process I have contacted you three times in regard to this-!!!I have sent payment, I have answered these requests very politely but they continue appear and mess up my sales, my bids and I now have 6-count 'em 6 emails jamming my box for this stupid pattern! You keep it I'LL NEVER EVER BUY ANYTHING FROM YOU AGAIN!
buyer Oct-14-04 at 19:02:34 PDT
Money order has been sent, I have a receipt. would you like to see it?Item has been paid for but NOT yet RECEIVED!
buyer Oct-14-04 at 18:55:39 PDT
I have already paid for this item using check or money order. Payment details are as follows:
Check number: 6525869488
Amount: $11.29
Payee: USPS
Payment date: Oct-10-2004
I don't know if this check has been cashed.
Additional comments: I emailed the seller I would pay by Money Order-Money order has been mailed. And, I did apologize for the delay-it was an accident! Has been mailed, has been mailed, has been mailed, has been mailed
So she's a seller too! For shame, daaaaahling, for shame!! Triple bad karma for you! How does she expect to send payment and receive the item on the same day, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm? Givin' me all this grief when she surely has dealt with her own non-payers. I wonder what she means by messing up her sales and bids??

My goodness! Someone is a bit cranky. Payment has still not been rec'd. You claim here it was mailed 10/10 (hmmm, that was a Sunday) -- in an email you say it was mailed 10/11 (that was Columbus Day, no mail). Mail from SC to FL takes 2 days. Where's the payment? You will absolutely get your pattern once payment is received. I'm sorry you're irritated by the consequences of not paying on time ...
So guess what shows up in today's mail ... dated AND postmarked 10/14??? An USPS MO!! LOL Those darn dates and postmarks are so pesky!! I soooooooo wanna reply you shameless fibber!! ::giggles:: I wanna scan the machine dated MO & printed postmark, upload and post the pic addy in the UPI. Prolly won't allow it, but I wanna do it!!!
When are these freakin' fibblets gonna learn, huh? How many other sellers have been around this block a time or ten and can smell 'em, too? I'm gonna love responding to the neg I'll surely get hence!!
Answer
There is always a 5% **s***e factor. I had a seller give me a cock and bull story about how he dropped my shipment off or USPS was picking it up, and somewhere in there the bottom line was that the postmark was 4 days later than it should have been. uh,uh.

Well, my bidders father passed on... (maybe he did, I regret that if he did). One month goes by, (am I crazy? one month)? So, I dispute it, dude says you'll get the money...(kindof thuggy) but hey it's money...
Money comes, I remove dispute, then ship. Story ended. Hey! One month? Am I crazy? Oh and yes he was a Canadian...and yes I was nice too ya know.. and got the damn money momma!
Moral of story. Life goes on, who cares!

My favorite was a woman who when I filed a NPBA, emailed me and said basically that she blew it, she had no excuse. Could I send her the info again. I did and when the payment arrived, it was postmarked the day of our email interaction.
In a world of constant excuses, it was so refreshing to just have someone say, "I screwed up; I'm sorry."

While it is very easy to become jaded to the barrage of excuses we hear as sellers; I had one happen as a seller this week that helped put things into perspective for me on any future "jumping the gun" judgements about the reasons a buyer gives for not making what we consider "timely contact."
At almost midnight; the evening before my Mom's funeral; I had a buy it now out of my store....I am in Ohio, 950 miles from home, and eBay is the LEAST of my concerns at that point.....funeral, dealing with relatives, two days of travel back to Florida (while coping with the realization that she is really gone), finding 2" of NEW water in my kitchen from TS Matthew and immediately having to deal with FEMA and getting a temporary roof on the house....well.....I didn't even turn ON the computer until Saturday to know that I had a sale.....and two emails from my buyer.
I just kept it simple....."Sorry for the delay; my Mom passed away & was in Ohio when you did the BIN; will get your item shipped first of week."
Got a nice reply with "Sorry about your loss....no rush....mail it when you can."
It's all about honest, simple communication and accepting that crap DOES happen sometimes....even to us sellers.

Pack, I completely agree and would like to extend my condolences.
I do so much enjoy an honest person saying "I messed up" and I get them occasionally. I work with them and give them every possible leeway. It's the fibblets that annoy the crap outta me! You know, the ones that take advantage of a payment extension, and then get fiercely uppitty when the extension comes and goes and you ask for payment again!

I've just got one of these bidders this weekend, too. And it is a higher doller sale for me. She bought mulitple items from my auctions and store.
No word from her for 5 days after her request for a total. So I sent a nice, gentle reminder saying that I hoped she hadn't been affected by all the paypal problems that had been going on around the time she requested her total.
She did reply that she had not been affected by the PP screwup, but that the weather had turned colder in Minn and she was trying to get her house painted whle she could. She would make payment that evening and if she had any PP problmems, she'd let me know. That was this past Saturday. I emailed her last evening in reply to her email and thanked her. Said I'd let her know when payment arrived, etc. Nothing yet. OH, and she has great feedback, too.
Gimme a break, lady! I need that money! (Couldn't be for a little $3.99 auction....NO......had to be for 10 auctions.)
