EBay user conference to be in San Jose next year

Online auctioneer eBay is bringing its popular annual user meeting to its hometown of San Jose for the first time next year, the company said Friday.
EBay Live, which gathers company executives, users and vendors into one place, will take place June 23-25 at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center. With more 10,000 attendees expected from around the world, the gathering will rank among the three largest conventions in San Jose.
In fact, the event could prove more lucrative than typical conventions for San Jose businesses because attendees often turn their eBay Live trips into family vacations, pouring into local restaurants and shopping areas.
"We're extremely excited,'' said Daniel Fenton, president and chief executive of the San Jose Convention and Visitors Bureau. "It's a big convention. It will take all of San Jose's hotel rooms.''
Next year's event will be the fourth eBay Live. Anaheim, Orlando, Fla., and New Orleans have hosted the event before.
EBay's is celebrating its 10th anniversary next year, and company officials said that factored into their decision to hold the event here.
"It's like an homage to our birthplace,'' said eBay spokesman Hani Durzy. "San Jose has been a great place for us.''
The anniversary may also swell the number of attendees well beyond the typical 10,000, Durzy said.

according to my local newspaper San Jose Mercury News. Sad commentary how many reporters actually get the facts before they print. It's much easier to state things they assume without checking the facts.
Of course we all know that eBay is just a venue, don't we.
I plan to be independent (AKA: own website) by next year this time, but I may attend anyway because they are literally 5 mi. from where I live.
