Those of you who charge a s/h!

Question
Need a letter to send those bidders who bid on items, win and then want to negotiate a new s/h fee!
(Those of you who charge actual shipping or have that “Beta” setting through your postage service, need not respond! http://community.here.com/infopop/em.../icon_wink.gif )

Answer
What is your standard S/H charges?
If they are low, that's one letter.
If they are calculated to be part of your profit, that's a totally different letter!

Answer
I'm sorry, the terms of the auction are non-negotiable. Your total due is.....
Why waste breathe on people who don't read anyway?

Answer
I use something similar to likearock.
Short and to the point and I always end it with "Thanks for your bid!!" so I don't come accross as short and rude.

Answer
If I can ship the item first class.... I will quote them my first class flat rate.
If I cannot ship the item first class, I send an email stating the S&H that is in my auction. If you repeat it often enough, it tends to sink in. http://community.here.com/infopop/em.../icon_wink.gif

I had someone question me last week (for $1 over the actual shipping) even though my fixed shipping prices are stated 3 times in my ads. I responded with a couple of sentences pointing at it was 3 times in the ad she bid on and was not negotiable, thank you for your bid blah blah. She then sent another rant about filing a dispute if we couldn't negotiate something. The simple approach just doesn't work for some ppl. Course I'm not Miss Manners but I do try. I'd also like a simple nutra type response!

My shipping in clothing states a s/h for the item up for auction then a $3.00 each additional item. The person who got 'my bee in a bonnet' today bought three tops and doesn't want to pay the additional $6.00 s/h quoted stating what they felt it should cost to send the three items to her.
I'm on the east coast and sometimes these flat charges I list cover everything and yes I do profit. Then if it's headed to the far west coast it doesn't always cover it...hey but I never get "Oh I see it cost you more to send than I paid so here's the difference! http://community.here.com/infopop/em.../icon_razz.gif"
I gladly tell anyone they pay as listed. I just get steamed when they pull this after winning! http://community.here.com/infopop/em...s/icon_mad.gif

It took me a half dozen e-mails but I finally convinced my buyer he was receiving much more than 6 small die cast cars (which he was convinced could be shipped for $3 or less). In fact, he was receiving the cars which were SEALED inside the cereal boxes they came in just like the auction (and photos) indicated.
It takes a little more explaining to do sometimes when we have a flat rate stated in our auction for one and the buyer is the high bidder on more. They sometimes feel that you can ship two as cheaply as one.
The auction described above for the die cast cars stated $4.50 for Priority shipping and that was for one. I refunded two PayPal payments to him before he finally got that I was not going to be bullied into losing money on this one. They will go out in today's mail which is nearly two weeks after the auction ended.

I actually anticipated this problem for my next round of auctions. I will be starting some big, heavy items and some fragiles at 99¢, and handling is factored into all my flat and calculated shipping fees. I've worded the terms section of these listings like this for flat rate shipping:
Buyer to pay $x shipping plus insurance. The shipping rate includes a small non-negotiable fee for packaging/handling.
Where the shipping needs to be calculated, I state the boxed weight, my zip code, and "plus $x packaging/handling". Sometimes I put the handling fee in bold to make sure it's noticed. $8 handling to ship an oversize glass shadowbox display isn't excessive IMO but if they manage to win it for 99¢, they may not think so!
I always have trouble with the under $5 winners over shipping. Many don't like to pay more than their bid amount for shipping, now matter how good a deal they got or how heavy the item is.

Ha! I charge exact shipping and I got one of those emails from a bidder today! http://community.here.com/infopop/em...s/icon_mad.gif
This person sells and charges a large handling fee. They told me that they ship really cheap. I guess they never heard of the seller search function. http://community.here.com/infopop/em.../icon_razz.gif And they wanted me take some $$ off of shipping. Sure, how about I just pay you to take it?
You know, I don't mind a reasonable handling fee. I've paid them and will continue to do so. I've even been tossing around adding a handling fee. Heck, I might as well if I'm going to get emails complaining about my shipping charges
anyway. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...n_rolleyes.gif
