Question
eBay has started rolling out the new BUY HUB. Part of the changes being made are the BROWSE and SEARCH buttons in the navigation bar at the top of the pages. The BROWSE button is being renamed to BUY and the SEARCH button is being replaced by a search box located in the upper right corner of the page.
What do you think about the search box? Personally, I preferred the button that took me to the search page because I think it's easier to read the input field. I guess having the box versus the button means one less click which could be an improvement but I still liked the button better.
Original: Coming Soon: Buy Hub
Date: 09/16/04 Time: 09:11:42 AM PDT
In the next few weeks, we will introduce our new Buy Hub. This is the second stage of a long-term project to make eBay easier and more intuitive to use by organizing the numerous tools, education content, and other resources into logical landing pages. The new Buy hub will be the starting point for buying-related tools and activities. The recently-introduced Sell hub was the first stage of this project.
Also included will be updates to the top navigation bars and bottom footers of all eBay pages.
Buy Hub
As part of this project, the current Browse button found at the top of almost every eBay page will be renamed to "Buy". By clicking on Buy, you will see a new Buy hub page which looks very similar to the current Browse page, and includes a search box as well as additional buying-related links and features. Additions include:
More links to categories;
Access to buying reminders from My eBay;
New shortcuts to your Favorite sellers, searches & categories from My eBay;
Alerts when an item on your Watch list is ending soon.
Navigation Bar Changes
The Search button currently in the navigation bar will be replaced with a search box that will be located in the top-right of almost every page. An Advanced Search link will be available right underneath the search box, which you can use to access options currently found by clicking the Search button, such as Find Items and Find Members.
The Help button will also be added back into the main navigation bar to make it more prominent and easier to find. Please note that these changes will not affect the Stores minimized header.
Footer Links
The links at the bottom of most pages will be updated as well, including:
New shortcuts to your Favorite sellers, searches & categories from My eBay;
Consistent links across various pages so that you can always find important information.
To preview the upcoming changes, please click here. We have also started a thread on the Bidding discussion board for members to leave their comments. Please click here to access the thread.
The other hubs to be developed over the months ahead include a hub for Community resources, as well as smaller projects such as adding a landing page to My eBay for visitors who are not signed in and a more efficient Help hub. eBay

I'm just ecstatic that shoppers can now search right from my item pages. I noticed that enhancement in the upper right corner this morning.

I'd noticed today that I was having trouble finding the search functions to track past buying and selling by particular ID's. No need for that stuff to be especially transparent, I suppose.

Does the BUY button suggest BROWSING to you? I don't think they should rename the BROWSE button to BUY because that word means paying for something to me - like proceeding to the shopping cart. It also seems to be a more relevant term for fixed price items as opposed to the auction format.

OK, I run a Store in a mall or large venue, online or in RL is unimportant.
I stock items and price them after considering all factors.
Customers come to my store and shop.
Mall/venue owner comes to me and says "I want customers to have the best possible shopping experience. I'm installing a terminal in your store so that if anyone sees an item that interests them they can easily check and see where and at what price the same or similar items are available from, elsewhere.
I mention that I pay substantial rent for my space, offer good value and do not want to enable price driven comparison shopping from within my store.
Venue owner replies he will not install terminal if I will pay more rent (Featured eBay Stores do not have as prominent search boxes for example) or otherwise "Screw off".
I remember that I haven't been working on my plans to move to another location recently and pull out the website folder.
I look out the door and see other store owners standing in front of their shops with that "What will they do next?" dazed expression on their faces.
I also say another prayer that Google, YAHOO or MSN will offer commercial space to independent sellers in the expansion their search engines have in process.

Since I don't sell on eBay any longer, I didn't consider the implications of having a search box right on the listing page. Having a search tab which leads one to the basic search page is not the same thing as having a search box where one can type in their query right on the listing page. From a seller's point of view, this SUCKS!

Since I regularly clicked on "View Seller's Other Items" just to use the search box on that page when a search came to mind, it is neither here nor there to me. It is unobtrusive, and far less noticeable that the search box on the "other items" page, so I am not bothered by it as a seller.

THIS IS STUPID!!!!
I just came here because I just noticed it and figured someone would know where in the sam hell they put the search button for members and stores.
I don't search for product.. very rarely do I use that feature.
HOWEVER I am constantly looking up user ID's and stores because I like to see what my customers sell so I can get a better feel for their logo needs.
I finally FOUND a way to get to the member/store search function but you have to go by way of HADES to do it.
