Shooting Star vs Auction Sage

Question
I own Shooting Star and have used it for awhile. I only use it for auction management and not the bookkeeping part. I use The Poster Toaster for auction listings. I really do like them, but am always on the lookout for something better.
I've heard alot about Auction Sage. I've briefly looked at it and it seems to really do alot.
The drawbacks to changing are: I'm already familiar with my existing system, I own it and don't have to pay anything monthly unless I choose to donate, do I *really* have the time to try and learn something new.
However, I also don't want to get stuck in a rut when there may be something even better and more efficient for complete auction management.
So, has anyone used both and can give me a comparison?
Thanks!

It has been a long time since I use shooting star but from what I can remember it wasn't nearly as good as AS. The BEST thing about AS is if you have a problem, question, wish list, WHATEVER - if you email John you will get an answer right away. Sometimes within 5 minutes, always within an hour or so. This has happened multiple times with me, & it didn't matter if it was 2am he was there. I have never had customer service like that anywhere before.
I believe I spent most of one day learning AS, it wasn't a big deal. What took the most time was setting up the auction poster with my default settings. The inventory feature is worth the cost of the whole program. He also has a sniping program that is free.

I did a trial of auctionsage awhile ago and it didn't have good inventory control. Can you now put your items in folders? Or is it one big long list of products? I have a few hundred, which I like to separate into fixed price setup, store setup, auction setup and then split those into with and without gallery. I do this in Turbo Lister. Since I have done the trial, I can't do it again, so is this possible with auctionsage now?

Thanks for the input!
Can AS be used with off eBay sales? We are working on our website and it will eventually be fantastic and sell lots

Answer
I've never used Shooting Star but I love Auction Sage. If it doesn't have the feature you want, ask for it, you have a great chance of getting it. It has a 30 day free trial, that is the best way to see if it fits you.
I just started using the poster, I was stuck in my rut of using Vendio to list and I'm trying to adjust to the change. The poster is good, I just need to tweak out a template or two.

Answer
I just went and looked a little more in depth.
WOW! It seems they have everything. I'll have to give it a test drive.
livearock - is there a reason you don't use AS for listing? I thought it did that too?
I do like the template tags in Poster Toaster.
Thanks for the input. I'm still interested in any more experiences.

Answer
I use AS for my website sales, also. you can either add to an existing ebay invoice or you can create a non-ebay invoice. works great other than you have to change the inventory manually (I list an item in both my ebay store and webstore).
I don't think you can put inventory into different folders. I'll look next time I'm running it.

Answer
When you make a listing you can give it a category name, item # or misc. name. Those are searchable just like all of the poster categories, so you don't need folders. Whatever search string you enter highlights all relevant listings so they are easy to find.

Answer
I've been playing with AS some today. It may work, I'm not sure yet. I have so much to learn about it. I'm glad to know I can call up what I need with a search.
Can I have it print out a list of current auctions?

Answer
Highlight whatever you want, choose reports, choose create html document & print. I am sure there are other ways to do it too. AS is very flexible.
