Last week, PayPal icons were added to the end of each item title within Search and Listings results where the seller accepts PayPal as a payment method. We are considering both short and long-term solutions to address some concerns that have been voiced by the Community about this change. We appreciate your patience as we evaluate the possibilities and will continue to keep you updated on our progress.

Answer
Maybe they will decide to mandate the use of PayPal, and don't care about the users they might lose. Where else will they go?

short term solution - do nothing
long term solution - force everyone on the planet to use PizPal
... problem solved

Hope they get rid of that ugly icon.

I really think that at some point ebay will force all sellers to accept paypal, and maybe buyers and sellers.
With the percentage they'd get from the sales, listing fees, and PayPal from all sales they'd make a lot more money, even if some sellers go else where.
That's just what I think, but can they legally do it?
I'm also surprised that they haven't forced sellers to quit using other listing services for theirs.

Hi.
I caved under the pressure and signed up for paypal last Saturday. I had quit them in October '00. I just thought now that maybe it would help beause if I didn't maybe some people would just skip over my auctions without the little logo. Only one person has paid with payal so far. I was hoping my sales will pick up now. I felt it's sort of my last hope.
Off to watch the TV for now. I had a root canal today, not bad until now.

Yep, probably what the ebay people expected.
I accept PayPal too, but I don't advertize it and only mention it if someone asks.

From alt.marketing.online.ebay:
I find the new search/browse format showing the "PP" icons next to PP-accepted auctions to be incredibly annoying. As my eye scans down the list, there is a tendency to "tune out" the clutter of the PP icons. If anything, the items that DON'T accept PP are more visible as a result -- sort of a free highlighting feature. Conversely, the PP items just seem lost in a sea of blue PP, as it were.
As a seller who does not accept PP, I was delighted to find my auctions netting about 50% more than usual this past week as a result.
And, of course, I also have no PP fees to pay for those increased sales dollars.
Thank you, ebay. Way to go!
