Question
PayPal is changing their homepage.
Answer
Mine looks the same. Is it on the log in page? I didn't log in just looked at that page.
Answer
As long as it "works", I don't really care what it looks like.
For the record, your thumbnail one isn't all that bad.
Or, what is it I'm missing?
Answer
Oddly, even though I am a graphics-girl ...
I DON'T like it.
The images don't add anything useful and the page was fine before.
Plain, easy to read and find what you wanted (OR. Maybe I was just 'trained' to know where everything was and didn't have to look for it.)
Either way. It's "eh,okay" but there wasn't anything wrong with it before.
Seems like change for the sake of change.

Ditto what Gem said. Another site that just can't stand not changing.

So typical ...the ebay way.
Answer
I always thought their name, Paypal, was pretty cheesy. Maybe Paypal is trying to get away from the cheese-ball image that the name evokes.
Look at the new page. The word Paypal is fairly small every place it appears on the page, but words like Fast, Safe and Easy are huge. Plus, the people pictured look like neighbors, teachers, regular people you might know.
Anyway, I don't expect that the home page of Paypal will make much difference.

This is true. From a design perspective, that is a good way to convey trust, reliability, etc (even if you happen to think it's the Tired, Old, Overused Way hehe) ... and I think thats what bugged me - maybe if that was the site's original format it woulda been one thing, but as a redesign it just irks me for some reason. Like it's fake, almost. If the goal is to attract/comfort new users, then yeah - I guess it might work.
BUT! I AM AN EXPERIENCED PAYPAL USER AND USUALLY HATE CHANGE UNLESS IT'S MY IDEA TO MAKE THE CHANGES So my view is just that of an old dog who likes the old tricks. BARK!
*oh and I have my bookmark set to the login page anyhow so why am I even gripin' about it? daaaaahhhh ...
ETA: hmmm I said a baaaad word.
All fixed, sorry
