Paypal email........is this for real?

Question
Dear valued PayPal® member:
PayPal® is committed to maintaining a safe environment for its community of
buyers and sellers. To protect the security of your account, PayPal employs
some of the most advanced security systems in the world and our anti-fraud
teams regularly screen the PayPal system for unusual activity.
Recently, our Account Review Team identified some unusual activity in your
account. In accordance with PayPal's User Agreement and to ensure that your
account has not been compromised, access to your account was limited. Your
account access will remain limited until this issue has been resolved. This
is a fraud prevention measure meant to ensure that your account is not
compromised.
In order to secure your account and quickly restore full access, we may
require some specific information from you for the following reason:
We would like to ensure that your account was not accessed by an
unauthorized third party. Because protecting the security of your account
is our primary concern, we have limited access to sensitive PayPal account
features. We understand that this may be an inconvenience but please
understand that this temporary limitation is for your protection.
Case ID Number: PP-972-117-543
We encourage you to log in and restore full access as soon as possible.
Should access to your account remain limited for an extended period of
time, it may result in further limitations on the use of your account.
However, failure to restore your records will result in account suspension.
Please update your records on or before September 30, 2004.
Once you have updated your account records, your PayPal session will not be
interrupted and will continue as normal.

Answer
sure looks like a spoof to me
forward it with headers to Spoof*paypal.com
do not click on the link

Answer
http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr...ention-outside

From that page: Look for a PayPal Greeting: PayPal will never send an email with the greeting "Dear PayPal User" or "Dear PayPal Member". Real PayPal emails will address you by your first and last name or the business name associated with your PayPal account.

Type in the PayPal URL: To safely and securely access the PayPal website or your PayPal account, open a new web browser (e.g., Internet Explorer or Netscape) and type in the following: https://www.paypal.com/

Answer
In addition to what Meya posted, from the PP site ...
Never log in to the PayPal website from a link in an email.

Answer
Yes, fake. Email from paypal always starts with your name.
Beware of a new scam where emails don't start with ANY salutation. The "Dear Paypal Member" is a red flag. No greeting at all does not necessarily raise a red flag with many people (including myself, the first couple of times).
These days, as a general rule, you should immediately regard as suspect any email from any kind of financial or credit card entity. Particularly if it tells you about bad things happening to your account and log in here immediately to correct it.

Answer
I forward everything to either spoof*paypal.com or spoof*ebay.com, depending which account it refers to.
They always confirm it is a spoof and if, or is that when, my time comes I'll deal with the "no, this is for real" email.
It also may help them become aware of the current sources for spoofing and close them down more quickly.

Answer
I got the exact same email yesterday and forwarded it to spoof*paypal.com. They emailed back later verifying it was in fact a spoof.
Just like Ray said....I forward everything.

Answer
after I forward something like that I usually log in to my account I figure if there is really a problem they wont be shy about notifying me with a pop up
