Question
Any idea how he or she did it? Proper lighting, I can see that. But I don't think my Mavica can take photos like that. Maybe it can and I'm not using it to it's full capability, I don't know.
Is a Mavica camera capable of this?
They took a minute to load, but they are worth it.

Answer
Busker: Check out http://www.tabletopstudio.com - they show you how to take pictures like that.
The pictures in the above listing took over five minutes to load on my dial up connection.
Answer
I've got dialup at only 28800 bps and it didn't take nearly that long for me, just a minute or so.
Maybe it took that long for you because lots of people are hitting on it?
Thanks for the link. I'll check it out. My photos suck compared to those on that auction.

Because the seller's other items are all photo-related, I would guess the answer to your question is a lot of schooling! My DIL is a professional photographer & some of her shots are amazing, but she has studied all about lighting, focusing, etc.
LOL! - I have trouble even operating my ditigal!
Answer
That is a really good picture. I saved the link for tips on photo shooting and will be checking it out. I think having good photos make all the difference. If I can't see what I am buying then I don't buy.

I think that held true on this particular auction - the photos showed the beautiful, clean condition. He offered what is generally the cheapest original equipment SLR lens available, the 50mm 1.8 (some brands are 2.0 instead of 1.8). The 50mm 1.8 or 2.0 are the most common because these were usually purchased with the camera when new (it was the cheapest lens when new as well so they sold more I guess). But he had that hood or whatever to go with it which helped. The shipping was very high, $12 I think. I could ship that lens for less than $5 and I'd probably charge $5.00 s/h.
$35 seems like a pretty good price for the seller, considering his s/h was $12. I'd probably get less money for that item and make far less on the s/h.
Hmmm...
Answer
Very impressive. Maybe the best photos I've seen.

If you're talking about the older Mavica's that use a floppy disk, then no. Unfortunately those cameras use a lot of compression in order to save space on the floppy, and they were designed with budget in mind so the lens and components aren't the greatest.
If you're talking about one of the newer higher-end Mavica's, like the MVC-CD500 etc..., then yes you can take some really great pics if you learn the settings well.

I was wondering. That's what I have, the floppy disk kind. It does take some pretty good closeups but nothing compared to those.
I just realized I should have waited until the auction was over to post this thread. Lots of people from here looking at it could have used too much bandwidth, possibly costing him a last minute bid? Don't know if that is the case, but I didn't even think of that.
Answer
Good photos but I don't care for the yellowish background....looks like he doesn't have his white balance set right on his camera, unless he actually wants a yellow background.
I use reveal lights and settings on my camera to get rid of the yellow background.
