How many times can one sign in to ebay - anyone know?

Question
For the past week whenever I tried to sign in to ebay I'd get the security code. (funny but I never sign out, ebay does it for me so I have to sign in again.)
Today I finally asked at the AT forum for help. I thought my settings were wrong.
I'll just C/P what I posted there about the ***Your sign-in information is not valid. Please try again.***.
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR> What a day.
Brandon at the ebay Live chat says that there are unsuccessful log in attempts but is unable to see from where or who since that info is unavailable. He also says there is no way to remove the security numbers and that I will have to endure it till it stops.
Safe Harbor tells me to clear my cookies and cache. That has been done so many times so that's not the cause either. I have also tried a different computer.
Then again in live chat, Christie-Ann says that she checked my account and it does not state that there have been any unsuccesful attempts to sign into my acount. She did say "You are allowed to sign in and out of ebay for a certain amount of times throughout a 24 hour period. If you exceed this limit, you will then receive a notice to submit the security numbers. In order to get rid of this limitation, you will need to wait 24 hours to lift the security setting to your account"
I asked what is the limit.
"The limit does vary depending on the member. I am unable to access this information"
I did ask for a link to that rule. She said that it is not disclosed for security reasons.
I never sign out of ebay, but always have to sign in.
So now, for me to list peacefully,(and give ebay $$$) I have to wait 24 hours.
Are they for real? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
I might as well be suspended.
Has anyone heard of this secret rule?

Answer
It may not be true anymore, but when I had that problem, it was because my password was too short. It had to be a minimum of 6 characters.

Answer
Jayne,
My password is 9 characters. I was aware of a sign in problem so I made sure I had a long PW.
I have just turned off the Paypal logos in My ebay preferences in case PP was messing with me. But that change will only take effect with new listings. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...icon_frown.gif
So, to get rid of PP completely I'd have to close my store and relist everything.

For certain functions (i.e. My eBay), I find if one signs in first and bookmark, it will not ask for another signin again when I click the bookmark. This works even when I am sign in with another eBay ID. It only works for certain sections of My eBay. This helps to reduce the need to sign in and out of various IDs. You might want to try and see if it works for you.

PeachOwl, I have the same problem from time to time. It'll go on for a day or two, making me completely crazy. It really makes me nuts when my auction management software gets hung up because of the stupid numbers.
I've never noticed whether the number of times I log into ebay in a given day is more or less before I start having problems, but I strongly suspect that there's no pattern. It seems to me that I've run into the "LogIn information Invalid" even first thing in the morning, so I know it's not because I've been trying to login too many times.
One thing I did find out - the last time it occurred I happened to have a chat about eBay with the woman who works for our dentist. She said she'd had the same problem during the same period. So maybe it has something to do with a particular area? Didn't there used to be times when eBay would be down in certain areas but okay in others? Maybe it's a regional thing.
I've never been able to get a useful answer about it. I just keep re-entering my info and it evenutally clears up.

Got a few more emails from ebay today. They're saying it's just a corrupt cookie that's causing the problem. For some reason I find that hard to understand.
How can this happen on two different computers and only affects this one ID?
The last email from them states that they have researched my sign in situation and that I may no longer have an account. http://community.here.com/infopop/em...s/icon_eek.gif
I call ebay. CS emails me a temp password. So I change that again.
Now I can easily get into my account yet don't know if they'll shut it down. I don't know which CS to believe. They contradict themselves.
I think I'm going to step back from ebay for a while. Just let my store stuff expire or whatever ebay decides to do with me.
Too much of a headache right now.

The same thing has been happening to me this week...
I think it's some screwy bug eBay just doesn't want to admit...
and what the heck does this (quoting below from original post) mean...?!
"The limit does vary depending on the member. I am unable to access this information"
I did ask for a link to that rule. She said that it is not disclosed for security reasons.
----------------
Wha...?!!!
Is there some kind of discrimination going on...? What does she mean "depending on the member" - including members in perfect standing or members with lots of negs. or what...?
my standing is 100 % pos. and if i find out that i have some kind of restriction on me (but how to find out - i mean - what is this "not disclosed for security reasons" - say what - sounds like the friggin bush admin.) - anyway - if so - grrrrrrr...
oh - for screwed up sake - grrrrr anyway...
really i think she made that up (that sounds suspiciously like the above mentioned admin. too - but i won't mention them again)...
i really think it's just a bug - and i just wish they'd fix it - but i'm not holding my breath...
p.s. i've also got a headache - feel better - you and me too...
...

Hi!
had to take time out to chillllllllllllllll
Commentary,
Never thought of trying it through bookmarks.
Not sure if it would have worked in this case. I'd be on one page and it clearly says on top that I am signed in. Click to the next page and need to sign in again.
Boo_boo,
You may be right about it being regional. A few weeks back a repeat buyer said her account was hacked. She must have been experiencing the same problem. Seems very common lately.
I think ebay is tinkering a bit much and breaking things as they "improve and securisize" the site. LOL A few screws are loose.
Utensil,
When I was told about that limit, I freaked. I've been a member since 1999 have over a 1000 FB with a pinch of negs. I've been listing only about 4 or five items per day recently when usually it's 20. My thought was, IF I have a limit, then what happens to low FB sellers or those who list more than ten a day. No logic. I think they make up stuff to sound intelligent.
I tried to launch one auction today, got the security numbers - again.
Let out quite a few colorful words....

Answer
I think the deal is that someone from china or some other country with lax laws has a program that does random searches on eBay and records to a file every eBay User ID that it finds with a high feedback, then tries 1,000 common passwords for each User ID to login. Since people probably have the same PayPal password as eBay's password, this makes sense they would do that. If the user has a common password like "12345" and the cracker gets in, he can find what the users eBay e-mail is, and use that e-mail address and the password that worked, to login to PayPal. This takes no programming skill whatsoever. It's easier to break sometihng than try to build something nice.
So, 1) Don't have an easy password. 2) Your passwords for your e-mail account, eBay, and PayPal should all be different. All 3 should be different from each other.
