My HMO is bilking me!

Question
What is the name of your state?
California
I signed up to receive medical insurance on March 17, 2005. My employer says that they will deduct premiums for the 1st through the 16th, yet it wasn't untill the 17th that I signed up. I understand that if I pay for a months premium & I don't go to the doctor that month I don't get my money back. To me this sounds like if I rented an apartment to someone & then told them that even if they are moving in on the 17th they still owe me rent for the 1st through the 16th. Is this legal? What is my recourse?

What is my recourse? Recheck that with your insurance company. Most insurance premiums start on the 1st day of the month following your enrollment, as does your coverage, after the required waiting period (sometimes up to 90 days).

Answer
Sounds like you need to go to the doctor every month whether you need to or not. Might even plan a few trips to the ER just for good measure.
