pre-existing condition?

Question
What is the name of your state? Massachusetts
I currently have blue cross blue shield. I hurt my knee a few months ago and need knee surgery. I will not be able to work at my current job after I recieve the surgery. I plan to move to NY next year and do not know what type of insurance I will have then. Do I absolutely need to have this surgery now from an insurance stand point? Will a new insurance company not cover me becuase it is a pre-existing condition? Is Blue cross required to pay for my surgery and PT even if I am not longer on their plan, if I was hurt while on their plan?
clueless.

Answer
If your BX plan is an individual policy, when you move to another state you will have to drop that coverage and pick up something new.
If it is a group plan and you leave employment (or become ineligible due to reduced hours) you may have the option of converting to COBRA. If you elect COBRA (or other HIPAA qualifying coverage) and keep it in force until you move your new carrier (if a HIPAA qualified plan) cannot restrict your coverage if you have satisfied the HIPAA requirements for continuous coverage.
BX liability ends when your coverage ends.
