Question
What is the name of your state?South Carolina...I am new to medical insurance matters and I hope this question doesn't seem silly.
I am a 30-year-old male who has not had medical coverage since I was under my parents' plan through college. I am currently looking into purchasing a policy (directly, not through work). I am specifically concerned about my ankle and what will/will not be covered. Let me explain:
In 1997 (while in college) I had surgery on my ankle after an ugly sports injury. It's been eight years, and it hasn't bothered me since.
If I purchase a policy, and later suffer an ankle injury of some sort, will it be covered or is this considered a "pre-existing condition?"
Confused.
Answer
A completely new injury will not be considered a pre-existing condition.
Anything related to the previous injury might be, though given the length of time since the surgery probably not.
Answer
It should not, however - you may want to inquire with the plan prior to making the purchase.... they are all different.... you may be able to get the type that doesn't have the pre-exist clause.
Ask questions - a good rep can answer anything for you - they should be helpful if they want your business!!
