Question
What is the name of your state? Illinois
When my ex-husband and I divorced -- the judge said that my "X" was responsibile for the uncovered medical and dental bills. The dentist that I toolk the children too was not apart of the insurance plan and will not cover the bill. After several conversation with the dentist to bill my ex-husband they finally did --- however they sent me a letter stating that I am the responsibility party because the "law" states whom ever brings the children in for service is the party responsibile for the bill. I have never heard of this "law" and besides I have a signed document from the judge that states my "X" is the responsibile party
What do I do?

Answer
Mary,
You have to pay the dentist bill. The dentist could refuse to see your children for an unpaid bill. Although it states your husband is the responsible party for it. Now...after you pay the bill it is your responsibity to get the money from him. Send it to him certified with signature required. Do not hand it over. If he doesn't pay it within the reasonable amt. of time according to your div papers, you can write to probation or go to court with the bills and his signed signature of the letter you sent with the bill. They will make sure he pays. Unfortunately this will be a never ending battle.,,,unless your x pays.
