Question
What is the name of your state? Massachusetts
My neighbors house has become an eyesore and is detrimental to the value of my property. Been to the town bldg. insp. and health agent, who both say it's their civil right to live under these conditions - clapboards falling or completely off in spots, holes, junk everywhere, tires, glass, rusty metal, you get the picture. I was told by this neighbor's wife (when we were on speaking terms) that their insurance company called a few years ago to say they had until the end of the summer to side it but nothing has happened. At this point we don't want to incite anymore anger with this neighbor, because he's threatened to make it worse (he has construction vehicles he could put in our view). I've called the mortgage co. to let them know of the situation and ask who was their insurance co. but the bank pres. said alas there is nothing he can do either. I have no way of telling who their ins. co. is. What if i saw a rat, which is not far on the horizon if things keep going this way? We may need to sell but will not realize the equity we should due to their mess and dilapidated conditions. Is there anything more I can do? Already contacted the state and they say the town can only do anything if a bylaw of the particular town is broken, which according to the town there isn't. Bldg. inspector says birds and animals going in and out of holes in the house is the health dept. problem. The health dept. says holes in the house are bldg. insp. problem. The neighbors are afraid to sign a complaint.
Answer
The insurance company is not allowed, by law, to collect information from you, nor give it to you. No one is required to tell you who their insurance company is.
Answer
So we just have to wait for the insurance co. to come by again? Do they do that often? Or is it just by chance they might drive by? Because we were so glad to hear a few years back that the ins. co was going to make them side the house. But then they didn't seem to enforce it.
Answer
The insurance company cannot MAKE them side the house. The insurance company can only nonrenew the policy.
