My ex-husband had a life insurance policy with my son as beneficiary. He died in September. When I called the insurance company, they told me that the policy was terminated at the end of August due to non payment. Do I have any recourse?

No. If the premium wasn't paid, they will not pay a claim.

Was this a term policy? If it was a whole life (permanent policy), it might have lapsed (terminated) with a cash value available. Did they say it lapsed w/o value?

Dang it! I ASSumed term. I've written so few WL policies, that it didn't even cross my mind.
