Question
New York
I quit a job at the end of September, and started a new one in mid-October. During those two weeks, I had an accident and required stitches, total bills were about $2000.
Initially, my old insurance paid the bills, but took the money back as I was retroactively cut from coverage as of the day I left my first job. My new insurance is effective my first day of work.
I think I can get in under the wire for COBRA because it took my employer a long time to send me the letter, but that's not my question. Here it is:
It is now mid-December. I know COBRA provides retroactive coverage, and I do want retroactive coverage, but I only really want COBRA coverage for the 2 weeks I was without a job. I am fearful that they will charge me for all of October, November, and December until I cancel. If they do that, it will be only marginally less expensive than paying out-of-pocket.
Any idea whether I can somehow sign up for COBRA benefits, but also retroactively cancel as of the day that I obtained new coverage?
Thanks!!
Answer
Generally you pay premiums for an etnire 30 days. You are running out of time to elect coverage.
Answer
thanks. I sent in my election form already.
So, you think that I can pay for one 30 day block (end of Sept to end of Oct) without having to pay for November and December?
thanks again
Answer
I don't just think you can, I know you can.
Answer
hooray!
thanks!
