Question
What is the name of your state? FL
About 2 months ago my vehicle was stolen. I made a separate claim for the contents of the vehicle on my homeowner's insurance. I had some expensive items in the vehicle and initially thought I should go through the claim process. This is the first claim I have ever made in 8 years. Once I realized, after my $1000 deductible ,I was only looking at approx. $300 dollars I decided to withdraw the claim because I did not want my rates to increase and have a claim on record for such a small amount. My insurance company still wants me to go through the entire investigation process - do I have to since I have dropped the claim. And, if I don't cooperate at this point (after two months of cooperation) can they drop me as an insured?
Answer
You can end the process, but there's no point. This is already on your record as a claim-regardless of the payout. Therefore, you might as well get your $300. Next time, review your policy to make sure that its worth it beforehand.
