Group insurance policies can ONLY be cancelled during the open enrollment period, or due to a "life changing event" such as marriage, divorce, birth, and a few other things. The can NOT be cancelled mid-year except for those reasons. That is federal law; it would be illegal if you were allowed to cancel under any other circumstances.
When you signed up for the policy, you agreed (whether you understood it or not) that your enrollment would be effective until the next policy year.
