Question
I'm in Oklahoma. I was previously covered under my husband's insurance plan with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma. After a demotion, he was forced to seek work elsewhere, and we ended up with an individual/family coverage plan that does not support maternity until almost 2 years after you've enrolled for it. Although I was unaware at the time, I was pregnant while we were covered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield--maternity coverage and all. Now, though, we're stuck with an individual plan, no maternity coverage, and a very expensive baby on the way. Everyone keeps telling me that Blue Cross Blue Shield should pay because I was pregnant under their policy, but I don't know or understand how. What's the law on that?

If your BCBS insurance is no longer in effect, then they won't cover anything. If anyone knows anything different, please let KeriAnnie know.
You may want to check to see if you can qualify for Medicaid. That will surely beat having to file for bankruptcy when you can't pay the $20,000+ hospital bills. You know that the hospital bills will be INSANE, and the hospitals charge you more when you don't have insurance!
Answer
"Everyone" is wrong. Just because you were pregnant before your coverage with BCBS terminated does NOT obligate them to pay a claim that occurs after your coverage terminates. Whoever is telling you that does not know the law.
Answer
I had a feeling that was the case. Common sense wins again. Darn. Thanks for the info.
