Homeowners Ins. Cancelled

Question
What is the name of your state? CA
A relative of mine was seriously injured while working on his house. The hospital told him they would bill his homeowners insurance. The homeowners insurance company has avoided his attempts to reach them and get the correct paperwork going. After numerous calls to the homeowners insurance company and the mortgage company we found out that the homeowners insurance company had cancelled his policy three months prior for not clearing his lot. Our family has been looking for any sort of notification from the insurance or the mortgage company regarding the cancellation of his policy and have found nothing.
Is there anything we can do in this situation?

Answer
Sure! Ask the company to send a copy of the cancellation. You will then have it and won't have to look for it any longer.

Answer
A relative of mine was seriously injured while working on his house. The insurance company can provide you a copy of the cancellation notice as well as the mailing certification. It's a moot point in this situation - your relative has no medical claim against the insurance company if he was injured at his own house since the liability under a homeowner's policy is third party coverage..
You will have another problem - if your relative has a mortgage, the mortgage company will assign a single interest policy (dwelling only, covering the mortgage company) for a very high premium until he gets his own insurance. See the thread
Edited for clarification : The insurance company can provide the Named Insured on the policy with a copy of the cancellation notice. If you're not on the policy or do not have his POA, you don't get a copy AND the insurance company shouldn't even be talking with you. And, for additional clarification - a third party is someone who is not identified as a a "named insured" under the terms of the homeowner's policy. Liability is a third party coverage.
