Can structure insurance extend to pay contents?

Question
What is the name of your state? Florida
I had a fire on my house and even though I have contents insurance, there is not enough to cover all the lost items. The structure of the house was not as badly damaged to use all of the money allocated to the building for the rebuild process. Could I ask the adjuster to swap some of the money originally allocated to cover the building to pay for the contents?
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Answer
You can ask; but, he can't do it.
If you have a regular homeowers policy - you have coverage for the physical structure and coverage for contents. They do not cross. You cannot "give up" monies under one coverage and have them shifted to another coverage. This is another reason to review your coverages (all of them) on an annual basis to make sure you've got the right limits.
