Question
What is the name of your state? Pennsylvania.
My digital camera was stolen today while I was volunteering at an animal clinic in a nearby city.
I filed a police report with the local police.
I tried to find the answer by googling, but nowhere can I find out if it will be covered since it was stolen from a public place rather than from within my home.
Will it be covered by my homeowner's insurance since it was stolen from a place other than my home?
Thank you in advance.
Answer
No body here can answer that question because we are not able to review your policy. First look at your policy....you probably won't understand it but you might be lucky and actually have one in english...Then call your agent..

My response:
Yeah, I was reading the post and thinking to myself, "You're "Googling" this for an answer? Hey, dummy, did you READ the homeowner's policy?"
But, I was just thinking that. I never actually wrote it in a reply because yours, Weenor, was a proper response.

Answer
was the camera secured somewhere, or just left in a public place unattended? I left my camera somewhere at a trade show once, and when I realized that, it was gone. But fortunately when I checked lost & found, it was there.
It also may depend on your deductable, and/or may not be worth trying to recover partially from insurance if it could up your rates.
Answer
Thank you. I am planning on calling my agent today. This happened on Saturday, and they were closed, so that's why I was googling it. I figured "why not?", hoping I might find some sort of answer in the meantime until their office opens on Monday morning.

Insurance companies keep a close eye on the number of claims files filed (not necessarily paid) and have been known to non-renew customers based on the number and types of claims. You may want to be very, very careful about filing a claim for a single digital camera that was lost through what could be considered your own fault.
