Maternity Insurance

Question
What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? Louisiana
If my new Maternity coverage begins January first, will I be covered if I conceived December 16 or would this be considered a pre existing condition?
thank you

Answer
Is this an individual policy or a group policy through your employer? It makes a difference to the answer.

Answer
this is an individual policy

Answer
Then you'll have to ask the carrier. A group insurance policy through your (or your spouse's) employment cannot by law consider pregnancy a pre-existing condition, but individual policies are not bound by that law. However, just because they can, doesn't mean they do or will. Not all of them apply pre-ex clauses even when allowed by law. So the only one who can give you a definite answer is the carrier themselves.

Answer
thank you!

Answer
Since this is an individual policy, you definitely need to ask your carrier. Most companies will deny the application if you are pregnant at the time. This means that not only can the new carrier deny the maternity claim, but can rescind coverage back to the original effective date and make you liable for any claims paid in excess of the premiums.
Also see if you can reinstate your former policy.
