Question
What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? Florida
I currently have AIG Dental Insurance. Back on May I went to a dentist for the first time with my dental insurance plan. AS FAR AS I REMEMBER, they started to do what I was expecting: take a health history, they gave me a thorough cleaning or general cleaning, full examination and some x-rays.
The other day I got a letter from my dental insurance saying that during that visit the dentist also did a mouth debridement. Something that I totally don't remember. Probably they did it, and I forgot.
The thing is that my dental insurance is not going to cover the mouth debridement because I was supposed to wait like 6 months for the insurance to cover that.
My Questions:
1. Should the dentist was supposed to tell me in advance that my dental insurance was not going to cover the mouth debridement and that I was going to be paying out my pocket? Was he suppose to tell me that information that same day?
2. I do remember they mentioned that I needed to go for a second visit for a deep cleaning. Is it usual to get a mouth debridement on first visit?
Thank you for any inputs.
Answer
no, it is not unusual to have a full mouth debridement on your first visit. I am guessing that you have not had a dental prophy in a long time, and or you get alot of build up between visits. after your next visit, you should return to normal 6 month recalls with your dentist, (unless you have perio disease) then they should recomend more frequent visits.
