Question
I am looking for a health insurance plan to use in case of an emergency. I don't need well visits or check ups etc. I only want an affordable plan that will insure me if something expensive happens to my health (like broken leg). I want to protect my assets in case of an emergency. Does such a plan exist?
Answer
Sure. You need to speak to an independent insurance agent about options and premiums. I don't think you're going to find exactly what you're looking for though ("emergency only" coverage) but rather a plan with a high deductible that will provide coverage after the deductible is met for the year. The higher the deductible, the lower the premium you willl pay - just like your auto insurance.
Answer
Try Family Health Plus. Not exactly what you're looking for (if that even exists), but it is affordable in comparison to other policies.
Answer
Family Health Plus (FHP) eligibility is based on your income, but it is good coverage to have.
What county do you live in? FHP may only service Monroe and close surrounding counties... I am not sure if it's a state-wide plan.
I am not sure what else - if you go to the Blue's you're gonna pay a fortune for coverage and I don't know if they offer emergency coverage.
You can get inpatient only coverage - but that will only cover facility charges, not physician charges while you're inpatient.
I live in Monroe County and I have tons of access to FHP so if you need more info, let me know
